I have an LED(rechargeable) 850lm flashlight and a bag of cashews and a shiney plastic survival blanket folded up in a 3" square.

Oh and a fifth of good single malt scotch. I kidnapped Les Stroud years ago just for this purpose.

    Actually this -->
get to my airplane hanger in Denton and fly to my family's lakehouse on the end of a peninsula that has one road in and is an eight of a mile wide at its narrowest. The house is stocked with plenty of food, guns, fishing gear, gas, vehicles, etc.
I can fly most anything with wings on it, single engine/multi engine. Large jet/small jet. Floats/no floats. Can land and take off most choppers as well. Auto-rotations and hovers are a on going practiced skill.

You wouldnt make it out of downtown the major arteries would be clogged. plus the 35 merge in Denton would tie traffic up for miles. You also have to consider the natural choke points where the highway doesnt have access roads and ways to get over the steep local creeks and river beds.

Your best bet would to put a rocket assisted glider on top the building and do it escape from new york style

I would hope to just fortify my building and wait it out. But what kind of disaster would effect us?

Nuclear weapons? We are all fucked.

        Disease/plague? We are all fucked.

Massive civil unrest/looting? Well, I bet other places get looted before downtown. Really just a few residence buildings and offices down here. I bet the malls and highland park get the worst of it.

But yes, if for some reason everyone in DFW needs to "bug out" then I am fucked. I do however believe this to be highly unlikely in the foreseeable future.

water from a hot water heater isn't the best supply of potable water, unless you have a way to get it from the top of the tank. if you use the spout on the bottom of the tank, you are going to find the years of crap that has settled and separated from the water.

Those arent really bug out situations (in my mind)

A non weaponized Disease/plague can be survived with the right preparations and safety protocols.

Since this is Texas massive civil unrest/looting would probably be met by a vigilante/ militia posse and their guns. The bonus of this type of event would be open carry and mad max up armored vehicles

What kind of bug out situations do you believe to be most likely to occur?

I am not being condescending in any way, as I am legitimately interested. This topic has always interested me. I have maybe forty or fifty guns in my loft, along with maybe 50,000 rounds of ammo that I could distribute. Hell, my neighbor is a gun guy too and we met when I saw him carrying a rifle up to his place. I have always thought that it could be an easily fortifiable building and it is mostly made of concrete as it is very old. I also have a hell of a vantage point from my floor (I can see all of main street and one of my windows allows me to see I35).

Also have a good rooftop view that I could use to surveil the surroundings-

Being that most of you would consider me to be on the sticks already and having several properties with dwellings already, I / we would prepare for the onslaught of city dwellers rushing to the "country". Sadly you'd be meant with severe prejudice and likely picked off before you got close enough to matter. There are a very few exceptions to this, mostly being close friends usually well armed and useful.

That way if it is stolen I can at least remain armed whereas if that purse is stolen you're screwed and may get shot with your own weapon.

Not from those asshats on Doomsday Bunkers. I have built enough bunkers to protect from small arms and indirect fire that I can consult for a nominal fee.

I live in rural Pennsylvania and have plenty of natural resources and guns. My options are pretty heavy.

A situation that would result in a bug out is one that the sheeple are not informed, and/or dont realize what the long term effects will be. Otherwise the mass exodus causes the infrastructure to fail and even if it doesnt the displaced population will flood the country side failing the reason to bug out.

                            - The biggest event would be a weaponized or catastrophic emp. It would disrupt the power grid for many (5+) years, and would most likely take the US back to the 1800's. Those that survive the massive fires, will be faced with starvation, disease, and medieval behavior. Life will be bleak. Whats worse is that many third world nations will be better off and unable or unwilling to provide logistics and support.

                            - a mutating biological attack on rice, wheat, and other crops around the world. Food prices would skyrocket and goods would get limited due to hording on all levels.

                            - a 'limited' NBC engagement that displaces the population from CA and/or NY (maybe Mexico), destroys the political structure, and some of the comm network. It would most likely create a culture of fear and mistrust which would result in isolationist activities that would limit transportation.

                            - one other event that it would be probably better to bug out other than stay in the city would be an economic collapse that happens within 2-3 days (like the discovery of no gold in Ft. Knox). While local government, society and bartering would provide for itself it will be safer outside of the metro. Especially if you have the land to farm/ranch.

It just doesn't make sense to have your lifeline slung over one shoulder like that. Looks like nothing more than a gimmick.
