  • 1911 Upgrades?

I recently purchased a Rock Island Armory 1911 and I am looking to change the grips on it and maybe look into some other upgrades, does anyone have any suggestions on what improvements should be looked at first? Also are the grips for those mostly all the same, I see a few differences as far as beveled or magwell but I assume the shape on them are all the same other than that. Maybe pics of yours if you've changed some things?

Only thing I have change on my RIA was the grips. I love these even though they aren't all that pretty.

Those are what I am really looking at, the stock smooth wood grips don't offer much grip. I have looked on E-bay at a few, do you have any recommendations on a plce to look for them? I am going to a gun show in Lewisville this weekend so maybe they'll have some?

I have three 1911's and the first thing I always do is throw out the factory mags and replace them with Wilson 8 round magazines (47D's?). Don't care for those grips but to each his own. On my new Kimber I'm really digging the wood grips and might get another set to replace the factory rubber grips on my Custom Classic II.

I think I got those at Bullet Trap for $10-$15. They're cheap like the gun but get the job done.

I liked the look of the factory wood but when my hands would get sweaty they got slippery. And I wanted to be able to use it and not have to worry about scratching expensive wood ones up.

I have these exact grips on mine, and have no complaints. They are Pachmayr.

I have two of those hogue overmold grips if anyone is interested. For a full frame 1911.

How do I know if I have a full frame gun? Sorry for the stupid questions, it's a 1911 A1 if that makes a difference? I saw some punisher grips but thought those might make me look like a nerd and if I had to shoot some one in self defense I bet the D.A. would try and say I was out for vigilante justice, LOL

Expect to pay $400 to $500 for quality.

The full frames have a longer grip. The compacts are shorter. Just look at some pics.
