Just bought my first gun a 1911 A1 9mm, what would be the best ammo to buy for it, I will be going to the range for the first time next weekend and I'd like some opinions.

If you provide a little more detail the answers will get better.

For target practice use whatever... if my gun wont shoot everything, I wouldn't use it as a defense weapon.. while they are home they have federal hollow points in them.. They are a little pricey but reviews seem to say they will save the day! I have one really cool .45 hollow point.. can anyone identify this ammo?
pic coming next post"PSH!!!"

OK I'll probably just pick up the cheapest standard ammo they have for the range and maybe some hollow points for home use. I have heard people say that some ammo jams the gun easier or makes the gun dirtier after shooting them, that's the only reason I really asked.Originally posted by Nash B.Damn, man. For home defense you need to shoot it at range with you defensive ammo to ensure it will cycle.

If you are just going out to learn to shoot, any cheap 9mm ammo will do you good. Pinking ammo we call it. But when you start to get a little more serious about shooting, you need to start watching the grain of ammo that you are using. I personally think its important to practice with the same ammo you are gonna use. Excluding full metal jackets as they are not allowed on most gun ranges. But at least same grain.
