Another vote for Winchester White Box (for range plinking).

I would also suggest staying away from metal and only shooting brass cased ammo.

Federal ammo at Wal-Mart is what I shoot. I believe it is only 10-11 bucks a box.

I shoot steel case in everything I own. Use whatever works for you if you want to save some coin run steel case (you can find sales on brass case that bring the price difference down if you want to run brass), steel vs brass case discussion are similar to oil discussions. Run whatever you like. I personally won't own a weapon that wont eat steel ammo all the time.

For self defense ammo pick one of the major brands of hollow points and run a hundred rounds or so though it to make sure it will run on whatever you choose and then keep a box on hand.

Been shooting the cheap ass Tula 9mm and .45 at the range to plink with. Have not had any issues with their pistol ammo yet.

Watch the cheap ammo. Some are steel core and many ranges won't allow it. If you want to know if it is, just take along a little magnet. I have some Herter's that is steel case and steel core.

It's not steel core. It does have a thin steel jacket with a thinner copper covering over that. But the core is Lead

The magnet sticks to the bullet due to the jacket material not the core. Most ranges are just ignorant of the fact and use the magnet anyway.

IMO some of it has to do with ranges wanting you to buy their ammo since you're there already anyway

1911's are meant to be on a maniber. (Man Caliber) other known as .45 ACP

Oh I gotcha. I want to buy a .45 but this was my first gun so I just wanted to start small. I was looking at a .45 but my girl is going to be shooting it also so I decided to stick with the 9mm, plus ammo is cheap and plentifull!

Is ok. My first pistol was chambered in .380 auto.

A 9mm 1911 didn't seem to cause Jules Winnfield any problems.

OP: Get a press if you're going to shoot very much. You can reload 9mm for less than ten cents a round. I think CJ reloads his for like four or something. It's rididculous.

I've thought about getting into that, when the zombies come I won't be able to go to Wal-Mart and pick up ammo, LOL.
