I believe it was the crossfire that I was researching. I'll find link
The Viper line is in a whole different world/class than the Crossfire or Diamondback. The link I provided was to the Viper model. Much higher quality! I believe the Crossfire is made in China or Phillipines while the Viper is from Japan.

The Viper line is probably the best rated scope line on the market right now.

I bought this Viper PST 1-4X MRAD scope after over a year of reviewing potential 3-gun scopes and am very pleased with the results. It's got super-clear glass, a nice, wide field...

I strongly recommend this product. I like it so much that I bought two of them. Pros: Clarity is excellent. Illuminated reticle is a nice feature. Great value for the money. Cons...

my scope, I highly recommend it:

The further you want to shoot the better glass you need. You're more than welcome to give mine a shot and see what you think.

The vipers are about $400, and they are good scopes.

              Maybe for a 3-9x40

              I'm thinking I need at least a 14.

What about the Nikon Buckmaster 6-18x40

Ditto to CJ's comment. I have the 6.5-20x44 Viper (non PST model) and you are more than welcome to try it... It's the same one that I linked to for $389 from opticsplanet...

                    Don't forget about Sightron.
I still feell they are a quality scope at more than reasonible prices. I think they extended their rebate offer again. I got my rebate back in like 2 weeks, so you know it isn't BS.

My suggestion would be to decide whether you do or do not want to dial your shots. You may not need to really do much dialing at only 300yrds. So a BDC reticle may do fine or (god forbid) a BDC dial could work. of course MOA and mildot reticles are better if you ask me. BDC stuff is a crutch if you ask me.
At a cheap priced scope , the mechanisms are all shoddy at best. This is the biggest reason i went with a Sightron. They have a patented mechanism inside and I have tested it by shooting the box, etc.
The adjustments are great on this thing.

Sightron big sky line of scopes . Unless you are shooting something small , 300 yards isnt that far. I'd say 10x to 12x should be more than enough.
I ended up with a 3-12x42mm for about 300$ after rebate.
They are Japanese made, and feel as good a quality as good cameras, great adjustment, positive dials ,etc.
Sightron is a great underdog still, meaning good deals. Nikon lines are good , but I only liked the monarch and up lines. Leopold is just bullshit in the cheaper ranges if you ask me . They are the incumbant to make comparisons against.

I run the NIKON buckmaster 4.5-14 on my 308.

I like the scope and the program NIKON has For the bdc scopes.

Are these gone through by authorized folks, or just individuals selling?

SWFA buys them and then you buy them from SWFA.
