  • OK, taking the CHL class this Saturday?

Does the day go by fairly fast or does it drag like a mofo? Going to be such a nice day outside.

I'd say it all depends on your instructor. I did my class with a group of friends - we hired a guy to teach the class at a location of our choosing and he taught some self-defense stuff to go along with the standard CHL stuff. We did two or three evening classes instead of one long day.

I found it interesting for the most part. You just have to hope you don't end up in class with mall ninjas asking a million "what if" scenario questions.

Boring. Unless you're a tax accountant. Then it's likely exciting compared to every other day.

Thank goodness for the "3rd renewal" law. On your 3rd renewal, it's just paperwork and the fee. Pretty cool.

Our instructor at BT was pretty good, so it went fairly fast until 1500 or so. After that, unless they brought in hookers - it was just hard to stay focused.

I have never really had complaints from my classes. I do the full 10 hour Saturday. I actually get a ton of compliments from people says that it was not what they expected. I do most of the fun stuff in the morning, then we shoot, then a little bit more fun, and then before the test I hit you with the penal code.

Also, not all instructors are alike. Some jerk offs do not give a damn about teaching you much, and they care more about scaring you or giving you only their opinion instead of the law. TXDPS tries to regulate it, but there are always the bad apples.

It wasn't bad but anyway you look at it, it is still a long day.

I hate to say it, but I was hoping for an instructor that had a hot date and was wanting to get out of there early. I am sure there is a lot to learn, but damn that is a long day and you typically lose the focus of people after 4-5 hours. But i am in it for the long haul.

That actually sounds like a good idea.

I felt like it went by pretty quick. It depends on the instructor's teaching style and we also had a lot of active discussion.

Mine felt like nothing more than a defensive driving course.
