Sig Sauer 1911 Ultra compact

I saw a few threads on this last year, but never really saw any feedback. I was looking at the kimber ultra carry for a while and decided to try this instead. Picked it up at the gun show a few weekends ago.

I took it to the range last week. I didn't get to put as many rounds through it as I would have liked but I was short on time and also spent some time with my Glock. I cleaned it after purchase two weeks ago, and ran a bore snake through it before I started shooting. I ran 70 rounds through it, 3 different types of ammo, no malfunctions, no jams, failures of any kind. Shoots great, very smooth.

I have read several stories about problems with short barrel 1911s, but didn't experience any the first time out. Hopefully it will stay that way. So far so good, very pleased with the purchase.

I have been looking at them for some time. I have heard so many horror stories with kimbers having problems feeding properly, and the break in period, etc... I have also heard just as many good stories about people that had zero problems. I couldn't find a ton of feedback on the sig, but I figured I would give it a shot. Its still very early obviously, but so far so good.

I have three Kimbers; a Customer Classic II and two Ultra Carry's and no issues with any of them. Guess I'm one of the rare lucky ones.

All Kimbers are not bad guns. They just aren't worth what you pay for them. Those guns ran fine, and I have certainly seen far worse examples. I also inspect every gun that I buy, and that has led me to have pretty good luck, even with questionable guns. (ATI 1911-22, etc.)

In general, Kimbers are horribly fitted for the price point, which is ever growing. All of you guys who have a Kimber and think it's the bee's knees, tell me how many FTF,FTE, etc you had during the "break in" (which is said to be 500 rounds, according to Kimber)

Want to know how many FTF, FTE, magical explosions, etc I've had from my 3" STI? 0. Not a handful, not 10, 20. ZERO. The gun arrived, I inspected it for any obvious issues, cleaned it and oiled it and proceeded to enjoy it. STI mags, Kimber mags, Wilson mags, it runs. The gun just runs.

My 3.9" STI VIP? I've personally never had any malfunctions with it. Keith has had 5. I have no idea what my gun doesn't like about him, but it runs well for me, so well in fact that I would and do trust my life to it.

I did have a problem with my STI. The trijicon front sight was dim. Maybe not dim to everyone, but dim enough that I pulled the slide and sent it in. No questions asked, no bullshit, they replaced it and sent it back. That's the kind of warranty I expect out of a gun manufacturer. Try that with Kimber and you'll get excuses, finger pointing and 1001 reasons why it's not their fault.


... But hey, at least they have the coolest advertisements in every gun magazine!


To the OP, I've personally checked out one of the Sig 1911's just like you've got. I like that fact that they have front strap checkering, and otherwise are a pretty solid gun. There are some things I would change, but at that price point, it's a borderline bargain.

It's probably an eye-dee-ten-tee problem. It's common with most new Kimber purchases.

I like Sig 1911's. I got the wife a STX for V-day since she had been drooling over 1911's for a couple of years.

The prices I have seen were all over the place. Compared to the Kimber Ultra carry with night sites, the Sig was $60 cheaper and the same price as the Kimber w/o night sights.

The Sig was $110 cheaper at Bachman than any other place I have seen. (that had it in stock)
