Cleaning magazines?

I spent a couple of hours today cleaning my Glock, once I finished I re-loaded my magazine and when I went to chamber a round it jammed. I tried to rack another and they all were jamming. I tried two times and both times the same. I had a brand new Glock magazine in my box so loaded it and chambered a round and went through mag and no problems. I just did a visual and the old magazine looks pretty dirty. Does anyone else clean the mags while they do their guns?

I do. 3 times a year weather I'm shooting it or not

I usually do when I clean a firearm that uses magazines. I usually flush them with spray cleaner then Q-tip where I can and then oil them up.

I guess I need to spend some quality time with my mags as well, or are they 'CLIPS'?

If they see a lot of dirt they get cleaned. Only takes 5 seconds for most mags

Very seldom will I clean a magazine with the exception of some rimfire mags as they tend to get filthy.

On most guns I will normally just wipe down the followers with some rem-oil.

If your like Dohctr and shoot paper yeah, but spot and stalk on game or sand. I've drug my rifle on the ground plenty of times to get a shot. I try my best to keep it clean, but it happens.

I clean them about every other time I shoot. FYI, a lot of mags are meant to be non-lubed. However, I still lube a bunch of mine but I use teflon dry lube I picked up from lowes. Gives you lubrication without the wetness that picks up dirt. Seemed to make a big difference back when I lived in AZ and all my mags seemed to be getting dirtier than normal and causing some failure to feeds.

Depends what type... My 10/22 Butler Creek mags seem to work better dirty than clean. AR mags there is no reason to since they are aluminum, or polymer. The only thing I would do is oil the spring, but you only need that about once in what? A lifetime?

i use baby powder as a swamp ass preventative. So i clean my carry weapons and mags about once a month, or after firing.

Was that a Glock mag or aftermarket? I've put a couple thousand rounds through two .40 Glock mags without cleaning them and never had any issues.

Usually only after a class or outdoor pistol match depending on how dirty they get. I've never had a GLOCK magazine failure. I've had a few AR mag failures from bent feed lips when dropping them on hard surfaces.

No its the mag that came with the gun, I only shot about 75 rds through it. Premium stuff too since I have yet to find range stuff in Sig.357. The new magazine is Glock OEM and it functions great. Im going to tear into the older magazine and see what up. Its a Sig.357 only mag too, not the .40/.357 magazine.
