Exactly my point, I rather have them all go through a background check, rather than just let anyone conceal. Its open carry in Alaska, but I can understand it as its the final frontier. But here in Texas I rather not.
First hand witness at the failure of public healthcare.
Think if law abiding citizens could open carry a sidearm.. background/mental check required of course... but think of how many less criminals would commit a crime because of what they see on you...

Yea, or go ahead and walk up and shoot you and THEN rob you.
It might work as a deterrent, but it might make you a target as well.
Open carry is iffy to me. I saw it in some areas of Colorado though.

Only if the criminal looked around and couldn't see anyone else close by. Odds are if he/she did choose to take that step, and everyone carried, someone in the vicinity would tap that ass to stop the stupidity...

They would be shopping for a new gun at the same time. They shoot you, rob you, and take your pistol...

I dunno, IMHO you're looking at it from the wrong angle.
Sure a robber might be armed, but I don't believe that every thief that uses a weapon for leverage is prepared to take a life for what they want. Do some? Sure, but not every one of them. So that being said, weapon in plain sight = deterrent in most situations.
Not that I'm an advocate of open carry, just seeing the other side of the argument here.
