  • looking for red dot optic with magnification

So after a rage trip this weekend I am tired of shooting my AR with iron sights only. After a quick google and ebay search I found over a dozen manufacturers for red dot optics with magnification. Are there any good reccomendations for something like this. I do not want a huge optic and I really dont need that much magnification. I was thinking maybe something in the x5 range or around there.

    What about something like this?

Here's a link to a discussion about this optic on AR15.com.

That's a really great looking scope. Might have to pick one up.

          5x really ?
3x should be more than enough for a red dot

ever rethought that part a bit?

Yeah, sorry about that. I didn't notice it until after I had posted. I had sent them an E-mail asking what the lead time is for the optic, still waiting for a response. My guess is I'll have by the end of the day if not sooner. Tried calling, but the number keeps coming up with a busy signal. As soon as I hear back from them, I'll post their response.

                    Got these for Christmas.
Vortex Strikefire Red/Green dot and Vortex 3x magnifier on swing mount.

Mounted on my Rock River AR.

The Strikefire comes with a screw in 2x magnifier that you can use in conjunction with the 3x magnifier to give you 5 x total. I only wanted 3x magnification though. If I want more, I have my Vortext Viper 2-7x32 scope I can mount...

I have a Burris AR-332 on one of my AR's and I like it a lot. The reticle is very similar to the Primary Arms one. Compared to the Primary Arms if you opt for the $60 mount and $9.50 a piece for caps, the Burris comes with that stuff and can be found on eBay for only about $20 more total.

Last time I held a gun with a magnified red dot, it was pretty damn heavy. I wouldn't want to hunt with that thing honestly. Walk 2 miles in 105 degree heat with a rifle and you'll end up with a 3lb SBR in a few months time.

The reply I got from Primary Arms.

We have these on order, but we do not have an expected date of arrival. The best thing to do regarding notice of availability is to select the " Email me when back in-stock" option for the out of stock item on the web-page (right near the "Add to Cart" button).

Anyhow, as posted above, the Vortex Strikefire and Burris 332 are probably just as good as Primary Arms.

Vortex is probably a little nicer, honestly. I have both. Primary arms makes nice functional optics, they do exactly what you need them to do. But, they are not flashy, and not very tactile. Vortex is tactile, aesthetically pleasing, and has an excellent warranty/performance.

thats what i was thinking. with all the mounts and shit that must be nearly two pounds on a rifle.

starting to like those mini red dots on canted mounts already!
