It's quite feasible, actually. I have a nephew that is hooked on heroin that hangs out in Denton, also where his drug ring is located. This same nephew has stolen two guns from my father in law next door. He also stole my wedding ring one night, then when I went ballistic and called him out on it he magically found it the next morning in his bed. Said he blacked out and had no clue how it made it there. He also hocked all of his mothers jewelry, etc etc. I'm almost willing to bet it's my rifle and that the initials on the pawn ticket are TBR.

Guess we'll know when WT can check the serial for us. Almost hope it's not it just because of the familial ties but at the same time...

That sucks man. But how crazy would it be if it actually did end up being your rifle. It really sounds like it is going to be due to the sling, and your recognition of it. Not that they didn't make more than one or anything, but there seems to be quite a few coincidences.

Cool. Knew it was a long shot, but it could have been it due to the above.

At least someone gets their toy back!

Latest news. I have to be at the rangers office at 10am to drop it off tomorrow. A little sad to see it go. But have already gotten the green light to get the .308 I want!

What prevents someone from selling the gun off a forum, then years later finding the receipt in their filing cabinet and reporting it stolen knowing eventually they will get it back???

They do, they are supposed to hand this info over (i believe once a month) but that might depend on what store it was. Its usually picked up by an officer as well.

I think the fact the Pawn shop got their money from you and you are screwed is total bullshit. They should give the money back.

Not to mention possible legal ramifications... selling stolen goods... How is that not illegal? Wouldn't it be illegal for an individual? (I'm very ignorant of the law here.)

Most pawn shops have a 30 day clause where if it doesn't show up on a police report as being stolen within those 30 days. Its free to be sold. If its past the 30 days, and the item(s) are still on the floor waiting to be sold. The police can confiscate them and the pawn shop takes a loss.
MOST of the times though, the original owner doesn't go through the police and simply buys the item back from the pawn shop though. I would say that happened at least 60% of the time when I worked at a pawn shop.

Why would you do it that way as opposed to just reclaiming it after a waiting period or whateveR?
