I put 50 rounds thru my Saiga the other day and it was a blast. Just some old 2 3/4 shells my buddy had laying around for years and not one issue. We were 20 yards from the target and the carnage was great. I am laughing because my buddy was taking shrapnel while filming. He said it should look a little Blair Witch projecty. I can not wait to move the trigger, change out the stock, and add a brake to it. Just the ability to swap out mags is awsome. I have a Remington 1100 I have thought about doing a bunch of work on and comparing them in weight and speed.

I have a modded 935, 930 SPX, 1100 tactical, and an FN SLP. I would take a converted Saiga 12 over any of them if I had to make that choice. IMHO you can't beat the Saiga 12s magazine.

how is the weight of the saiga with a 10 round magazine? How much heavier is it than the 1100 loaded?

Per my super duper not perfectly exact bathroom scale. Both the Saiga with 8 rounds in it and my 30 inch barrel R1100 loaded out 8 lbs. No difference in the two.

An 1100 with an 18" barrel would weigh considerably less than a saiga.

that's what I was thinking. Im wondering if the extra weight would be bothersome or not?

I like both of the guns. The difference is one is a toy, and one is a tool.

I assume you're considering the saiga the toy?

It is a toy. Not to take anything away from their enjoyment. I think they are really cool, but you're not going to be hunting with them.

There are several police departments starting to pick these up from what I am told. We are going to work on mine and then approve it for carry at our department. Yes I am not going to hunt with it but it will be a great addition to my rack in the squad car. The ten round mags and abilty swap them out on the fly make it a great gun for what I wanted it for. Alot of the guys in my department that carry AR's actually commented that they would prefer a better shotgun to their AR's. I would prefer both and we have two slots. I would carry it in stock form but the charging handle is dead center in the middle of my holder.

I wouldn't consider either a hunting rifle with 18" barrel.

I've taken 2 pigs and at least 30 birds with my 870 18" barrel full choke. Difference is you can swap out the barrels on an 1100 in 3 minutes.

I wouldn't consider them a rifle at all.
