So after just a few doses of competitive shooting, I find myself already addicted. What I have been doing is IDPA and carbine competitions, and to be competitive I need a pistol that can run with the big dogs. I am usually the youngest competitor and the guys I am up against are 35 and up with years of experience and fancy guns to boot.
I do not want to run in the enhanced division, or in IPSC open. So far I have been running my Glock 34 in stock service pistol, and it gives me a slight edge over some competitors I believe. The extra barrel length, lightened trigger pull, extended slide release, etc are all from the factory so I can legally run the pistol with no problems. That being said, I just don't shoot as well with it as I do with 1911 pattern guns or other hammer fired pistols.
The carbine matches I run require pistol transitions, and the Glock is long and awkward to draw when I switch. the good thing about the carbine stages that require a pistol though is that there is no pistol classification, so you can run whatever you want.
I need something that fits the bill for both, and if I can find something right I am willing to pay good money for it. I think I might just bite the bullet and get a Wilson Combat or Ed Brown 1911, but if there is something else I am all ears.
