  • Is anyone shed hunting?

Ive noticed a few one sided bucks the past week here in kansas.

Here is what ive found so far after a little walk along the river. Nothing spectacular by kansas standards but the bigger one has potential for as young as it is.

      What is the size?

I only know in relation to the size of a dr pepper can, and I don't see any DP in the pic...

when the base is the size of a dr pepper can it gets shot.

I have not measured them as they are under 4 year old deer. I find shed hunting more fun than actual deer hunting. In kansas we can only shoot one buck a year. I can find all the sheds an dead heads i want.

Bucks loose their antlers every year around January/February. Fun to find.

I havent been able to do anything the past few weeks. I went and sat out my hog pipe last weekend only to find out that my blind had caught fire. Luckly a small propane bottle blew up which blew the fire out. But it blew out a big chunk of my blind. So I have been working on it. Didnt go this weekend either because of the rain. Prolly next weekend.

White-tailed deer shed their antlers every year prior to the re-growth of new ones. It may surprise you to find out that the entire shedding process takes only two to three weeks to complete, and of course the re-growth phase takes place over the summer up into very early fall. Bucks have antlers throughout spring,

On both our places in East Texas they havent started dropping yet. On the ranch in South Texas they just started.

I've started to see a lot of peolpe train dogs to hunt sheds which is kinda cool.

Still haven't gotten to go shed hunting but I did get to pick my Euro mount up. Dropped this guy at a little over 250 with my 7mm-08AI, he's a really nice deer for the drought we went through.

Went out today and found another shed. This is my first year trying to find them. So far its about one antler for every 2-3 hours walking.

One i was in my tractor and found it from the road in one of my fields.
