I gotcha. I am searching for the ATF letter regarding re-serializing at current.

Well, can't find anything but internet forum chatter on the subject.

I was under the impression it was still legal. A few of my SOT friends do it on Class III items regularly. Obviously that doesn't mean it's illegal, but I wasn't aware anything was officially changed.

Well, it isn't one of those things that is easy to prove or enforce either I suppose.

And I believe the ATF said that destroying an old gun and re-serializing a new one counts as manufacturing a new machine gun.
Ruger will service the AC556, they just would prefer not to.

On my gun, all the parts are almost identical to the 180 series mini-14.

My trigger group has a couple extra parts, the stock reinforcement is wider, the receiver is almost identical except for the rear portion that houses the selector.

I havent tried it, but I think I can take a standard mini bolt and it will fit.

Last year (2011) ruger replaced the bolt, firing pin and extractor in mine. (free of charge)

If you want a machine gun that theres a ton of parts for, get a M2 Carbine.

Atf put a stop on putting old serial numbers on new guns when olympic was doing this for repairs on their m16s. It is illegal to make a new machine gun and put a destroyed registered guns info on it.

Hmm, wonder if it's different for suppressors.

How about a Steyr SPP? Always had a little love for those guns.
