I really like the looks of the FN SCAR SBR'd.

That one looks like a coverted mini-14. The factory guns are labeled "AC-556". The selector on the factory guns are on the rear of the receiver, not like they are on the M14.

If I am going to pay $7000 for an AC556 then I want the folding stock and the short barrel.

                  Then searchfor a AC-556F or AC-556K

Usually F is blued and K is stainless

                  My guns model is AC556F

Ever considered an FNC? They are pretty reasonable. Also, there is a guy local that does trigger packs for them for burst fire.

I have, I would be down to buy either one but it would be easier to get the ac556 repaired or worked on. I know FNC owners usually buy an additional gun for the parts.

Ruger still warranties the AC556's I believe. Even if you blow it up they will reserial a receiver.

I know they will warranty the guns, but the ATF has put a stop to re-serializing guns in that manor.

Also, the AC556 has been out of production for a few years.

Have they? What stops them from doing it exactly?

Yes, production of the AC556 stopped around 2005. Also, according to the interwebs, Ruger will no longer service them as of 2010-

And I believe the ATF said that destroying an old gun and re-serializing a new one counts as manufacturing a new machine gun.

The question was in reference to the ATF not allowing manufacturers to re-serial, I'm aware the AC556 stopped production.
