You happen to have any other postings with complaints of the TR stocks? I've only read one account of a TR stock being cracked, I'd like to know if it's a big problem before I put money into one. http://www.thehighroad.org/archive/i.../t-579146.html

It was relatively common (more than a dozen different guns that I read about) a year or two ago when the model was first introduced. I would hope that Boyd's has fixed whatever the issue was.

If you're not completely addicted to that look, you can buy the normal .17 HMR BV with a cheap scope for $289 at Cabelas almost every other week.

For whatever reason, either the stainless barrel guns tend to shoot a little better, or better shooters tend to buy the stainless guns. No idea on that one. (And buy a little better, I mean VERY little)

Read my last post and quit being cheap. A decent gun holds its value, so it's not like you're losing anything.

I guess since this thread derailed and we are all showing off our Savages, here is my MKII TR .22.

Its a bolt action. It should be fine.

                  I have a Marlin 917. It's a nice gun.

                    LMAO!

As nice as that Savage is I'm guessing it's fairly expensive. What's the retail on it? And would you rather have that or a suped up 10/22?

You can buy a bull barrel savage as cheap as $289, or as much as $500 depending on what stock/options you want.

If all out accuracy is the goal, you can spend $1000 on a 10/22 and possibly outshoot a stock $300 savage.

The Savages are available in .22 mag and .17HMR in addition to .22lr, so if you plan on hunting small game with it, its far better than a .22 LR. If you want a semi auto for plinktastic fun, obviously the bolt gun doesn't fit the bill.

You might think so but I have actually had a problem before with a factory mag in a bolt action!

Walmart used to sell a cheaper version of the Savage model 93 bolt action. I picked one up in .17 HMR a few years ago for $100. It doesn't have the accutrigger, bull barrel, or a fancy stock. Walmart or another retailer might still sell a plain jane version for cheap.

The accutrigger and the nicer stocks are worth the extra money!

Academy sells the Savage 93F, which is your base model .22 WMR for $200. It's blued/synthetic and has the accutrigger.
