  • what's a good little bolt action 22/22mag/17hmr?

the only time i have shot a bolt action rifle was when i took out a hog with a 7mag, but it was just that one shot so i didn't really get the feel for the bolt action. well i shot a friends 22mag over the weekend just shooting at targets and i must say going thru the steps of cycling the bolt was different but really cool. what would a new or used bolt action 22/22mag/17hmr cost? i dont really have a preference when it comes to the caliber cause they are all pretty cheap

could i pick a decent one up from a gun show with say, $200 cash? or should i plan on spending a little more for better?

    thanks

    Get a .17 if you already have a .22

$200 won't get you much most of the time. $300 will get you a nice used Savage Model 93 (.17 or .22 mag). Any of the accutrigger / bull barrel Savages will be fantastic shooting little rifles right out of the box. Unlike some of the other bolt action rimfires which have shitty triggers, among other things.

Like the previous 2 above said, any of the Savages with the accutrigger are great little guns. The most enjoyable gun in my safe at the moment is my Savage MKII .22. Shoots the CCI Standard Velocity ammo like no one's business and the trigger breaks insane for a stock trigger.

For under $100 try to find a older Chinese made Norinco jw15a. Heavy barrel and a few other features of more expensive weapons. Decent trigger, but nothing like the $300 and up crowd. They are worth a look and most whom own one love them, including me.

I'm in agreement with the Savage kids. I will say that every now and again, I think about picking up a Ruger 77/22 in .22 Hornet.

Sorry, was thinking 982. The 917 is the 17 hmr. You should be able to find one for $150 used.

Another vote for spending a little more money on a Savage 93...
"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson, 1776

I love my Savage 93 BRJ. Shoots 1 hole groups at 50 yards all day. Does pretty good at 100 too if it's not windy.
