Pull the block, measure how far back the port is in the block and mark the barrel with a piece of tape, reinstall block.

Again you can fully check alignment with a can of compressed air.

If you look at the block while you have it off you will see where the alignment was off in the gas residue.

About the only block that uses roll pins is the standard front sight base. Hex inserts are normal for after market barrel and block combinations.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

It's a clamp on type front sight base. No as sturdy as the pinned ones but not a big deal as long as you aren't goin around bayoneting shit.

The gas port in the barrel an the gas port in the sight base need to line up. Only way to really check is to take the front sight off and make sure the port in the barrel is drilled properly and the port in the sight base.

Can't think of another way to check it but there's probably another way I don't know of.

Well I guess I'll take it off before wasting money on ammo or parts

I'm with you Downs. I want my weapons to work with any ammo I might stumble across in a situation where I'm having to scrounge. Got rid of one pistol because it was picky. Tested my 1911 with shitty steel ammo (definitely weaker, but no issues). P22 eats everything put into it. I'll get this working or it will find a new home.

          Thanks guys.

I prefer the Red Dawn scenario myself, but I'm older

Of course now it will be the Chinese or Zetas but I'll take what I can get.

I guess I need to get an SKS then to.... hmmmm.

I took a sec to investigate what's going on and I think that the FSB is misaligned.

This is the bottom of the FSB. The barrel alignment nub does not line up 100% with the FSB (front of the rifle is to the left).

It's still worth it to pull the upper off to verify that gas is getting into the upper. Their could be crap in the gas key on the bolt too.

The gap on the gas block to the barrel ledge looks a little excessive. On two FSBs on the same barrel I had a .032 gap. Yours may vary but that is about the thickness of a handguard plate.

Put compressed air through the system. And make sure the gas block is lined up on the barrel port.

Check gas rings on the bolt.

Lube the shit out of it if it is all excessively tight.

Try known quality ammo. Switch to the junk if you want after you know your frankenAR operates under normal conditions as designed.

OK. I have this front sight: http://cmmginc.secure-mall.com/item/...-Sight-Base-32

I was able to remove three of the four allen screws that hold it on, but the fourth won't budge. Loosening the three allowed me to move the front sight around. Plugging the chamber and blowing through the muzzle, I was able to half ass feel for a good placement. Twisted the way it was it definitely felt as if there was more pressure (ie. the gas ports not aligned) than the way I have it now.

Now my front sight is tilted to about 11:30 rather than 12:00.

Since I can't get the front sight off, I can't get the quad rail off to get to the barrel nut to reset it.

I guess I'll go shoot it and see if it cycles. If so then I'll just cut the front sight off (I don't like it anyway).

Go to any auto parts store and pickip a mini torch. They come in handy.

Unless the barrel is just junk it for sure wont cycle now.

Do what you need to to get that FSB off and take a look at the alignment.

Only way that's possible is if the locator pin was installed incorrectly. It wouldn't be the first time a barrel came jacked up from the factory.
