I might be over stating how off it is. the right post of the trident on the front sight is vertical. I'll snap a pic when I get home. I've got the fsb sitting with penetrator on it so I can get it all the way off to see for sure where the hole is.

OK. I tried to get the stubborn allen screw out (heat, penetrating oil) and just ended up breaking an allen key and then a hex bit (snapped this off in the head, it was a hardened steel one too). Just cut the FSB off.
Good news is that the gas hole on the barrel is pretty much at TDC, so my non technical blowing in the muzzle system must have been flawed (imagine that).
Time to make an order I guess I'm going to order a new gas tube too.
Thanks for the help guys.

Gas tube looks fine. But since it looks like the FSB was in the right place (well maybe forward or back a bit, something else (maybe still bad ammo) was causing my issues. Since I have to order a gas block, $12-13 for a tube seems like cheap insurance just in case it was the issue.

waiting on parts. I'll report back when I know more.
I took a close look at the gas tube. Lots of fouling on the mushroom end, but I'm going to guess that's pretty common. It might not be making great contact. I'll test it when I have it all apart again.

Measure how far back the gas port is in the block from the edge. Transfer the measurement onto your barrel from the gas port there.Fuck you. We're going to Costco.
