Went through an advanced shotgun course yesterday and shot about 50 rounds of 12 ga birdshot and 200 rounds of 12 ga 00 buck.
It was mostly shooting/loading/scenario stuff, but it was pretty damn fun.
Where else can you shoot someone else's ammo and get paid a salary for doing it? I know, the military is good about that too!
We had a timed course where were strapped in a car, had a timer go off, had to unseatbelt, get the shotgun out of the rack, run to a barricade, shoot 3 targets, run and reload to another barricade, shoot 3 targets, run to another barricade and shoot 3 more targets, and then run to the last barricade and shoot the last 2 targets (you were only allowed 10 shotgun rounds) and on the last target transition to your sidearm and take out the remaining target with 2 hits.
I scored 59.83 seconds, and it was good enough for second place only because I had my 5 spare shotgun rounds in my radio holster (radio was left out) instead of on a side saddle like the #1 finsiher.
There was 12 of us and we went through about 3k rounds of ammo. When we were done we picked up our "brass" and just through them away. If I would have known, I would have brought a trash bag and kept them.
I'm sure someone here could have used them as reloads.
The new tactical 00 buck has a "flght control" wadding. At about 7 yards and under, all the shot is kept in the wadding and acts like a slug. At 25 yards the group is about 8", which is phenomenal compared to the old stuff which had a 1" per foot spread. At 25 feet, the spread was 25".
