But this is why there are more than one class of long range. People simply enjoy different types of shooting. Mine is at animals."When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin

However, I like to keep things respectful, and my .223's energy drops off substantially at 800 yards. I can accurately shoot it to 1200 yards if I have wind at 10mph or less, but at that range it's .22LR energy delivery.
Anyways...the 22LR. Good gun? Or would you go with a .17?

My only let down, even though I have hunted all my life, is that I have hunters sympathy. Not too sure that I will enjoy killing for the sport of it.

Anyways, I'm off topic. Carry on!

Here's a .338 Lapua for you. For the money they seem to be good shooters. I've seen them in action at a local range near my FIL's house where Savage does demos and provides the ammo to let you shoot them.
Atlantic Blue '00 - '03 Cobra motor and TKO600, solid axle, full MM suspension
Silver '01 Vette - D1 blown LS

Other than that, you are right. You can build a 338 Lapua on a MacMillan stock with a 2 oz trigger for somewhere around 9k.
Explore Savage's range of rifles, shotguns, and handguns, designed for any hunting or shooting need. Innovative features ensure there's a Savage for everyone.
