I use my rifles for hunting primarily also, I just don't get the opportunity very often to shoot game at those kinds of ranges. However, I like to keep things respectful, and my .223's energy drops off substantially at 800 yards. I can accurately shoot it to 1200 yards if I have wind at 10mph or less, but at that range it's .22LR energy delivery.

Do you own a 22LR? Been thinking about getting one for varmint hunting. Kind of goes against the grain for me as I have never shot anything that I wouldn't eat, but a few of the guys on our least varmint hunts and has been trying to get me to try it. My only let down, even though I have hunted all my life, is that I have hunters sympathy. Not too sure that I will enjoy killing for the sport of it.

Anyways...the 22LR. Good gun? Or would you go with a .17?

Ive killed close to 50 rabbits with my 10/22. Works good, just make sure its accurate for head shots. Inside of 50 yards they are excellent for small game.

22 mag is decent, but don't expect to take anything big down with it. Cobra shot a hog point blank in the head with is NAA .22 mag and it bounced off his head.

I was actually thinking about doing some 110 gr reloads for the 270, but then again I might look into a 223. Maybe its time to pony up into an AR. So many choices. Still have the 30.30 too.

Anyways, I'm off topic. Carry on!

North East Texas Tactical is not open yet, but that is where I plan on shooting at. It is located just east of Dallas, about an hour from my house.

Hell yeah, that's a hell of a lot closer than TacPro... do they have any rates up for the range fees? I don't see any.

Look up Goose375 on Sniper's Hide, he has made a couple posts about it on there (even looking for advice before he bought the land). You might find more info there. However, I don't think his prices are set yet. I think he said he is trying to have it open by this spring and will probably announce the prices of membership / range fees then.

Here's a .338 Lapua for you. For the money they seem to be good shooters. I've seen them in action at a local range near my FIL's house where Savage does demos and provides the ammo to let you shoot them.

Other than that, you are right. You can build a 338 Lapua on a MacMillan stock with a 2 oz trigger for somewhere around 9k.
Not saying it's going to be as accurate as a true custom built BR, but has anyone seen the new Savage 110BA in .338LM? With an MSRP of $2,394, it may be a good place to start...

Explore Savage's range of rifles, shotguns, and handguns, designed for any hunting or shooting need. Innovative features ensure there's a Savage for everyone.
