Good point on the FFP vs range finder. Which range finder do you use? I have looked into a few (Leica CRF1600 mainly). I don't know if shooting competitions with UKD targets allow range finders or if you are required to range with the scope. I haven't shot in any competitions yet, but I think it is something I would enjoy. Just thinking out loud.
I use a friends Lieca and love it but the Ziess might very well be in my future. As far as being able to use a range finder in company depends on what kind of competitions are you looking at shooting in? Most tac competitions don't have extra long range targets, if that's all you're looking at stick with the 308 or have it rebarreld to a better round.

They are in 6.5x47 Lapua, 6.5 Creedmore, and 260 Remington anything with larger case capacity and the throat won't last long at all due to the overbore. The 7mm's are starting to really catch on now with their ultra high BC bullets, with really good barrel life as long as the magnums are avoided.

Oh I know. I just wish they were more popular than they are.

That is reload cost. The damn brass alone is about 4 bucks.

Other than that, you are right. You can build a 338 Lapua on a MacMillan stock with a 2 oz trigger for somewhere around 9k. Of course this is not including scope. And even then you'll want to go 24power which leaves you at a minimum of 3k.

They just got a pretty good bump back since Lapua now makes 260 brass. I've been really debating having my old FN rebarreled to a 6.5-284 for a hunting rifle but I also like the 280AI since I all have 7mm stuff lying around.

Any of those would blow my skirt up, but I've got a .260 to finish, if I'd ever finish it.

I'd go with .300wm for the cost, availability, and ease of suppression. All these wildcat rounds being thrown around are just wasting money on something you don't need for the range you're looking at. Why make your life harder and get no gains?

common , how am i supposed to respond to this bullshit? of course it's outside of what's comfortable.
Seriously.... you just have too much money to spend!
I applaude your abilities if you can shoot that far , and that well. However you might want to bring up your brain game first before you blow your wad.

I might add that these rifles are not the traditional weight as most. They are 40 lbs and better.
