A DECENT bench rest gun will probably be three times that amount. Hard to find glass that goes for $5000+
Dad's rifle before optics was around 3K, my step-mom's slightly less. One of his best friends did a LOT of the 'smithing in exchange for tax/accounting work, so you can figure a lot of the labor is nix'd.

It was very realistic until recently. High end optics have come down in price in recent years. My $4k single shot bolt action has a US Optics SN3 on it that cost $4k with rings & base back when I bought it. This weekend I added a Trijicon 1.25-4x24 AccuPoint to a Mini 14 ranch rifle and a Trijicon 5-20X50 AccuPoint to an Armalite AR15. In both cases the glass cost nearly as much as the rifle. I have some rifles with 3rd gen night vision mounted in front of some very high end glass and probably have 8k in the setup not including the rifle.

Hell, come to think of it I have spent nearly 1k putting match iron sights onto a rifle before.

Magnus, I am your father. You need to ask your mother about a man named Calvin Klein.

Drop the mildot scope and get the super thin rects. Make sure the scope has target turrets. Buy a good laser range finder. Adjust your dope over holding mildots over the target and you'll be more accurate
