  • Theoretical worst case scenario. Car buying gone bad. What do you do?

I'm posting this here for a multitude of reasons. I realize it may be better suited for the Back Porch, and if a Mod deems it necessary to be posted there, please feel free to move it. However, the main reason I want this in the Armory is that I feel like those who read this forum on a daily basis may have a more uhh...... Adult response.

So, you find a car you like off Craigs List, DFWStangs, etc. It's $3500 and you've spoken w/ the Owner who has given you an address and told you "CASH ONLY!" You agree to a time and you show up to the address, in a decent neighborhood at that time. There the car is, with For Sale sign in it, sitting in the drive way. You look it over and it is EXACTLY what you wanted and is in the shape the owner said it was. Confident that you're going to buy the car, you knock on the door.
The door opens and a guy is standing there w/ a pistol pointed at your face. There is no furniture in the house and you notice the back sliding door is broken out. He demands your wallet, phone, keys, rings, etc. You start handing the stuff to him and drop your keys/wallet/rings. As his gaze is shifted you pull your [insert pistol of choice] out and shoot the guy. He's either wounded badly or dead.
You call the Police/Paramedics, explain in VERY short words, the address and reason for the 911 call.

    Now what do you do?
Oh, and you do not have a CHL.

No CHL, your going to catch some trouble for that. Not sure how far it would go though. It could conceivably go as far as charging you with murder, or they could say it was clearly self defense and let the unlawful carrying go.

I have no experience in a situation like that, I'm interested to hear some other opinions.

Edit: Oh and if this happened to you or a friend, good luck.

I heard/read about something like this happening and I do quite a bit of "Criags List" buy/selling and a few times there has been quite a bit of money exchanged. Nothing ever happened but it easily could have. Over $500, I carry. And yes, I should get my CHL.

Ok... so the shit hits the fan. You had to use your Glock. What do you do when the cops show up? What do you say? What do you NOT say?

I'm hoping an LEO pipes up and makes some suggestions.

Call the police but its not going to be fun. In the end it was self defense.

Sorry, yes, I should have included calling the cops. No, it isn't fun, but then, neither was shooting the person. (I can't imagine the emotions after shooting someone point blank.)

This...and don't say anything else. This is what we were told, or advised, to say in the CHL class. Even though you could very well be in the right, you never know how your words can get twisted around to work against you.

This is why you take a [good] CHL class, and why you should have a lawyer on retainer after you start carrying. The CHL instructor will inform you what course of action you should take.

                        CHL or no CHL:

You are going to take a ride in the back of a squad car no matter what. Give your identification over and don't discuss it with anyone except your attorney. You haven't been charged until the grand jury comes back with an indictment.

This starts with the 911 call. That is legal evidence that can be used against you in the grand jury proceeding, especially if there is any discrepencies.

The officers are just there to collect information. If you have violated or even appear to have violated any laws:

im not sure because i have a chl so it wouldn't be the same, i would just call the cops and wait for them to get there and explain the situation. thats all you could do. and for me i would have a witness so.
