  • Colt Commander 9mm jamming

So, I have a "hand me down" pistol from my Dad. It's a great little pistol and I've carried it to many a "Craigslist transactions" with quite a bit of confidence. HOWEVER, I've shot it enough at my Dad's place, out in the country, to know that it has a tendency to jam. (Ejecting shell is caught between the upper and the rear.) I've cleaned it to a shine and I've even thought about having it "professionally cleaned". However, I question the latter. Any ideas?

(Sorry, I know this is a lot like... My car makes this weird sound. hElP!.) I'm willing to get pics, I just don't know a lot about gun smithing to talk about this in an educated format.

Yes, that's one of the situations. Sorry that I wasn't more clear. Pictures really are worth 1000 words.

It's probaby something simple like a loose ejector. I would suggest seeing if CJ can take a look at it.

He's not a smith. But he knows his shit, and could probably help with the issue.
I don't know him personally or know what his schedule is like. So I might be making suggestions that aren't realistic, lol.

I appreciate the heads up. This board has provided me with a HUGE base of people I need to know. Sounds like he is just one more person. THANKS!

CJ, if you read this.... hit me up... I hate "bugging" people.

Gixxer, I actually have. Several times. I have very little fear of taking things apart and being able to put them back together correctly.

Yale, this one will go to my Son when he gets married. (He's 6 now...) Tradition. Thanks though. If I ever get into a "must liquidate everything" situation I'll hit you up.

I had the same problem with my XD45 when it was brand new. Turned out I got some shitty ammo from the gun show where they were not putting enough powder in them to cycle right..

Darren, not implying you have the gay gene but is your wrist firm when firing? I have a couple guns that your wrist has to be like steel for the slide to function correctly and eject the shell.

Also, check for wear on the ejector "hook". It might not be positively grabbing the shell and pulling it out of the chamber.

                        Just offering a few ideas.

I'll second the ammo. Have you tried more than one brand? What rounds are you currently using? Can you get some good pics of the ejector?

You mother fucker. If I didn't know you...... No, I do NOT have the gay gene. Remember that time I refused your advances. God damn you were persistent.

I'll have to take a look at the hook as that sounds feasible. And, for the record, yes I have a firm wrist when firing it. Fun little gun with nominal recoil.

I'm going to also question the ammunition used. As I said, my Dad gave me the gun and several bricks of ammo that I have no idea where he got it from. The rounds I've fired have been "mixed" so I know the box they came in is wrong and who the heck knows, he could have reloaded the entire box.

I really appreciate all of ya'll's input. I'll be taking the thing apart this weekend, cleaning the shit out of it, and I'll look in to the hook. Hell, I might even post pics. (I have a shitty camera though... :/)

                              Thanks!
