  • Over and Under Shotgun

I do alot of skeet shooting and go bird hunting a couple times a year. With that said I'm sick and tired of picking up shells and want to get an over/under shotgun. I want to get a nice gun and don't mind spending the money to get one, but I also don't want a safe queen as the gun will be getting plenty of use. I was wondering if anyone had some good recommendations. I've used and looked at a red label before and it seemed to be a good gun for the money.

To bad Academy doesn't have any mid range to high end guns. I have a couple hundred dollars in gift cards that I could use there on a gun purchase. I went to an Academy yesterday and they only had one browning Over/Under. The guy said they had it a long time. The damn thing looked like it had been dropped 20 times and kicked around the store at least 5 times. Stock looked like total shit and the barrels weren't much better. I asked him how much because the sticker was $1,400. He said make an offer. I said $500 and the best he could do was $1,350 lol.

I use my Beretta Silver Pigeon for everything and it has yet to steer me wrong. It is quite ornate too and turns heads whenever I bust it out.

I would highly suggest you swing by the Beretta Gallery and check out a few of their guns.

I bought Academy's house brand Yildiz (I think that is how it is spelled) and am very impressed with its performance. I've read the same thing from others, too. I asked the guy at the counter to pull a few to find one with a nice looking stock.

I was in the same boat, ready to drop a grand or two on something else, but now I don't feel the need for it.

There is also Huglu. They're Turkish like the Yildiz, but the finish is nicer. They make shotguns for CZ.

It is what I ended up with as well. I was not sure I would like the o/u for Dove so figured I would try the $450 one. Liked it so much decided I would keep it and re-appropriate the shotty funds....

That said if I were going to buy a mid-higher end gun I would look at the synthetic/stainless Red Label or any of the three B's

If you don't want to pick up shells make sure the one you get has extractors and not ejctors or you will be in the same predicament.

Beretta Silver Pigeon or the Beretta White Wing both are great guns for over unders. I (the wife) has the White Wing. I love shooting it and its very accurate and pretty nice looking. You can get both between 1200 to 1500.

Right now if I was gonna buy one it would be a Beretta or a Winchester 101.

I still want a White Lightning Citori, and most likely in 20ga. Go to a nice gun room and finger-blast a few different guns.

I got to handle a Beretta Silver Pigeon earlier and it sure is a nice gun. Light compared to cheaper Over/Unders. Not sure what model you have, but this one was $1899. If I can't find a used one soon I'll probably just buy it.

I have both a Ruger Sporting Clays and a Browning White Lightning. Both are great guns for there intended purpose. My next O/U will either be a Beretta 686EL or a Browning 525.

Meh, I went with a Stoeger Cougar. I got it for $300. It has gone boom everytime I use Federal rounds. It doesn't like Winchester rounds for some reason..

Great for the occasional skeeter like me.
