P30 might be the best fit for you then. Go try one on for size, they have many backstraps and side pannels to tapir the fit to your hand. Grip angle is also very close if not the same as a 1911.

Except that the p30 has one of the crappiest triggers I've ever felt on a gun. I should know, mine is about to get shipped off to grayguns.

I like the Colt Agent and Defender or Springfield EMP for CCW 1911s.
Atlantic Blue '00 - '03 Cobra motor and TKO600, solid axle, full MM suspension
        Silver '01 Vette - D1 blown LS

The trigger isn't that bad, I guess over tens of thousands of rounds thru usp compacts, p2000s, and my p30 I got used to it. It by no means is a match trigger but it isn't total crap.

Just because it's attached to a great gun doesn't mean that it's not crap. Seriously, the only thing that it has going for it is that it's not overly heavy. It's vague, mushy, the D/A reach is fine, but the S/A reach is super short, etc. It's everything that a trigger on a $900 gun shouldn't be.

I have been really happy with my Desert Eagle 1911. It got many good reviews when it came out last year....great gun with some upgrades in the $700 to 750 range. No rail option though.

How many rounds? what kind of accuracy have you got out of it?

Only about 150 rounds to date. I don't get to shoot as often as I used to. Probably the most accurate gun I have... Or easiest to be accurate with. Best trigger feel of all my guns. Can get pretty small groupings which is an improvement for my less than average skills.

Tolerances and fit are pretty tight so cleanliness has been key. Had a couple issues with ejecting the brass but was using really dirty ammo that was caking up more than normal ( my sig hated it too). I bet with some more rounds cycled through it will loosen up.

Check online reviews on the DE1911. Most were very favorable for the middle of the road price range and nearly as good as all the "custom shop" offerings in the $1,000 range.

Not the best description but hopefully helps..

I have been looking real hard at the Springfield Lightweight Champion Operator but also at the much cheaper Taurus.
                        Any advice on either?
The Taurus is the full 5" while the Springfield is 4". Both have rails - which I want. The shorter Springfield seems easier to conceal but I am not sure how much accuracy will be lost.
I have that Springfield. Same model, I love it. Make's a great CCW, as well as home defense. I've got a Streamlight TLR-1s that I throw on the rail if it's going to be at home for a while.
