From what I can tell its just (mostly) a longer .300 AAC Blk not designed for subsonic. Still .223 brass and a .30 cal cartridge. Barrels are still in the ~$250-300 range.

Again, I've only looked into this for a short while and that round looks promising. Just seems the .300 BLK is ideal if you're gonna get a can while the WT is good for supersonic rounds

You may have a point there. My objection is more with their complete upper prices. You can get 3 of these DSA uppers for what a WT upper costs.

Well unless you're hand loading I wouldn't recommend it, I don't believe WT is SAAMI approved, so you're not going to have the major manufacturers producing ammo for it.

Yea the price is definitely a factor there. But I know that a bunch of us like the KISS approach to a normal 223 AR, but how many people are gonna leave this upper as-is?

You're absolutely right, its not yet. Its a brand new round but I was just responding to your comment about availability. You can only get complete ammo from WT themselves for now. I bet this will gain popularity, especially for hogs. But I was just responding to your comment about standard components like the .30 cal bullet, .223 brass, and regular BCG, and standard magazine. Not sure what surplus powder is, never seen it or have any idea what it would look like, but the WT round can be loaded with several common powders like H110 and Accurate 1680.

Again this upper is a damn steal, just questioning the round itself. I'd love it if I had a need for an SBR and a can, but as of right now its out of my budget.

When I look at that picture you posted of the two cartridges I do like it's longer length. I personally am building it for an SBR which is suppressed. But, if I want to I can sling 125gr projectiles at 2400fps, which is plenty fast, close to .308 energy levels which is fine by me. However, looking at that picture it's pretty obvious how they are getting the extra length. On .300 BLK you trim down to the end of the shoulder, so it's a completely straight case, then you neck DOWN to .30 and end up with a thicker neck which is stronger for reloading multiple times.

However, they seem to be cutting it off at the TOP of the neck, giving them the extra 5mm of case length. But, that means they have to run a mandrel inside the case to spread the neck out to .30 and then a die to neck it back down. That seems like a lot of stretching and expanding for a case mouth. I would think if you didn't run into neck tension issues on your first load, the case would probably only last a few loads before splitting. And annealing the cases would almost seem mandatory. Or, you'd have to buy your cases from them.

Lastly, unless i'm missing something, I don't see how that could fit into a standard AR mag.

It fits because the standard loads are all light. They don't need to stay subsonic, so they run a light bullet to reduce overall cartridge length.

Okay so it's a shortened spire bullet to fit. Kind of like my .350 magnum.

The ubr uses a shorter buffer tube.

By a few millimeters, but NOTHING like that thing.

No doubt, I was just tossing that out there. An enterprising chap could use a cut down tube and the spring from gunsmoke.

                              Oh...
