  • Let's talk quick access gun safes

More specifically smaller compact gun safes. My wife and I have a 14 month old daughter so for now loaded guns are just kept up out of reach. Eventually we plan to buy a larger gun safe for the long guns and old revolvers that I leave unloaded and locked but that probaby won't be for a little while. Right now we're just mainly concerned about our two loaded pistols that we would like quick access to should they be needed (Beretta 92A1 9mm and Sig P239 9mm). We'll also probably be picking up a Sig P238 for my wife to carry but that shouldn't take up much more room in a safe.

I've done some online research and I'm considering a Barska biometric safe. Specifically one of these two:

Explore Barska's wide range of high-quality safes and outdoor equipment. From binoculars and scopes to safes and tactical gear, we offer top-notch products designed for outdoor enthusiasts and hunters.

They seem to have good reviews. Any recommendations ya'll have is appreciated. I'd also love any info from you guys with kids as to how you store your loaded guns in the house.

On a side note, my wife and I completed our CHL's last weekend. Mailing everything off tomorrow. Looking forward to getting our licenses in the mail in hopefully 3-4 weeks.

I personally would go with push button combo vs biometrics. I just do not trust those readers to be 100% dependible.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

Part of the reason I was leaning toward the Barska in the first link. It has both biometric and keypad. Plus it's a little bigger and has a shelf in the middle.

Agreed! Tech is just too new for something that important.

OP, We actually have a thread on this somewhere in the archives, in which you could probably get a bit more insight.

I run two of the push button safes, the smaller is mounted in the living area and the larger in the master. The smaller is instant when you push the buttons, but the larger, with batteries installed and while plugged into the wall, has a slight delay when you begin entering your combo.

Love them both as I have near instant access. Not sure how you guys mounted yours but I used the carriage bolts with rounded heads on the underside of the counter (so that the square shoulder embeds into the wood) and teflon insert nuts on the inside of the safe. Sucker is not coming out!

I wish I had a link, but I once saw a concealed safe inside a wooden bedside alarm clock. To anyone, it looks and functions like a nice looking clock, but after hitting the config settings in a certain order a hidden drawer shoots out revealing your handgun.

I looked at the bed safe, but requires you to not have any end tables/nightstands.

                    I have this instead:

And I use this for a portable "security" when traveling or in the car.

Ill put my shiny hat here and say that I wouldn't want a electronic safe in case of emp. Nothing like having a lot of guns you couldn't get too.

                          Interesting video about these.

Hackers like guns. Hackers like locks. Hackers like to tinker with guns and locks. And, most of the time, hackers protect their guns with high-quality locks. However,…

Screwdriver would get most of the smaller safes open...

OP, I use this one with good success for generally the same reasons...
