Who is using what scope on your 10/22 and what are your comments.

I am leaning towards a Vortex in their Crossfire lineup.

I started off with that scope on my 10/22 and it's a huge bitch, great scope for the money but it's huge. I had not clue what magnification I wanted for my .22 which is another reason I bought the 6-24. I was happy with everything but the size, it held it's zero perfectly, turrets turned and clicked with ease. After checking that scope out I came to the conclusion it was more than I wanted so I bought the BSA Sweet .22 as it had some decent reviews, but my expectations weren't very high for it. After about 2 hours at the range I was fed up with it as it wouldn't hold it's zero for more than a couple rounds. That got sent back and I picked up the Nikon Prostaff 4-12x40 with the BDC and I've been perfectly happy with it, it's a great balance for size and value. As soon as I pick one up, it'll be going on my .17 HMR. I'm sure the Vortex 4-12x40 would work just as well.

I have a leupold rimfire fixed 4x on mine. Will shoot a group as small as a dime at 50 yards, and thats as far as I need a 22lr to shoot.

I have a Prostaff 4-12x40. I haven't shot it enough to have a well-formed opinion but I like it.

for $99 i wouldnt expect it to be that good especially with the magnification and objective size. typically 24x and 50mm obj comes with $$. how would you compare the glass quality between the $100 vortex and your prostaff which is about 2x the price?

Mine is in pieces right now, but it will have a Shooters Edge 3x9-40 that I got for $15 on it. That thing held zero on my .308, I think it will do the .22 proud once I get the stock finished.

One thing to keep in mind is that Vortex only recently dropped the price on the 6-24 scopes to $99 because they're closing out a lot of them, guessing they're going to no longer make them. When I bought mine it was $229. IMO the Nikon has better glass, I took time to do plenty of shooting at 9x & 12x to compare the two, and for me my targets were a little more clear on the Nikon.

And that is one damn clear 4x scope by the way, I was amazed. I have the more expensive Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP - and it is a good scope. A little CA on the long end, but overall great scope.
