  • Best Semi-High end Binoculars?

I realize this is the armory section, but figured guns and optics go hand in hand.

I'm looking to get my Dad a high end set of binoculars for Christmas. So what are yalls suggestions, would like to stay around the $800 or less range. He has always wanted a pair of Ziess just because someone told them how awesome they are. Are they really worth the 1k for an entry level pair over say some Nikon Monarchs or something similar.

I was hunting a couple weeks ago and I've got a pair of Redfields that are about $150 and my buddy had some Leupolds that were $300 or so. In the low light at dawn there was noticeable difference in how well you could see what was out there.

Suggestions on discount sites or good places to order from would be very helpful as well.

You will certainly be able to tell a difference in a cheap and high end pair of glass, especially in the field.

I'm a big fan of Swarovski but I've been lucky enough to be spoiled by them, lol. Ziess is certainly good stuff as well. I dont have any expierance with the Nikon pieces so I cant speak to that.

What type of hunting does your Dad like to do?

Just white tail, honestly he really doesn't "need" this nice of a pair, but he has always wanted some and won't buy them for himself. I looked at the Swarovski and they look awesome but seem to start around the 1300 range.

If it is for hunting may look into a spotting scope as well over binos. I have used both, and I like the spotter far better.

Entry level I would look at the Nikon or even Steiner...

I guess I should have posted my Leupolds are not very expensive but for me they are enough, they have a lifetime warranty and they are made in America...

Yosemites are a good value, but he already has a pair that would be comparable in clarity etc. Looking for something a little higher end. If I go with the leupold it will be a pair of these.

I've got 2 Leupold scopes and love them, in fact he has a VX-2 on his deer rifle as well.

They will be for hunting, but he also uses them on occasion at work to look at power lines so a spotting scope isn't an option.

That site has some pretty good prices, I think I might order these tomorrow.

Since he has put Zeiss up on this pedestal for so many years I can't imagine how blown away he will be when the box says Zeiss on it lol. Thanks for the site.
