Question regarding Sig Mosquito...

took zee mosquito for it's first test ride today. shot just over 300 rounds through it. used the solo 10 round mag loaded to capacity each time.

started with:

10 CCI mini mags, 40 grain
- no issues.

10 CCI stingers, 32 grain
- no issues.

100 federal target, 40 grain
- 1 FTC (fail to chamber). cured by racking slide. strange thing was the slide functioned fine and returned to battery. no round hung up on feed ramp or anything. just no round chambered.
- 1 improper ejection. round did not clear out cleanly, fell back into chamber sideways preventing slide returning to battery.

200 federal value pack, 36 grain
- 4 FTC (fail to chamber). cured by racking slide. same strange issue, slide returned to battery, no round chambered.
- 2 FTE. traditional failure to eject, seemingly due to lack of pressure to cycle slide. on one slide moved about halfway before stopping. the other slide didn't appear to move back.
- 1 improper ejection. round didn't clear out cleanly, fell back into chamber sideways preventing slide from returning to battery.

summary: 320 rounds, 9 issues ~3% error.
i think the 2 traditional FTEs may have been ammo related, if not it was probably due to dirty gun.
the 5 FTCs are what interested me. it seemed to happen on the 2nd of 10 rounds only. slide cycled, 1st round ejected, 2nd round remained in magazine.

started cleaning the mosquito this morning but wound up breaking it down completely and working on it.
polished the sear, hammer, trigger bar, a couple of contact points on the frame, and the frame/slide rails. also removed the mag safety (i hate mag safeties).

mag safety is gone, slide is smooth, the trigger is noticeably smoother in SA pull. DA always sucks. i wish i could remove the take up.

it took less than about 2 hrs for everything. all i used was an emory board from a nail cutter set. it did well, made everything nice and smooth.

all that's left now is to polish the feed ramp and work on the barrel throat/lip. just need to go get some sand paper.

took the mosquito out again finally thursday night to see if the work made any difference.

the trigger feels good. swapping the front sight for the medium profile one has the gun on plane now. it shoots a bit right, messing with the windage helps but i will re-install the barrel to see if that helps.

the bad news however, i put another 300ish through it. still got a handful of FTEs with value pack federal 36 gr.
it seems to do better with 40 grain rounds but that might just be cause i shot those first and it is a lot cleaner then.

i'll bring the bore snake with me next time to see if it's due to fouling.

Yeah, you have to use CCI's for good reliability. I personally don't want a gun that shoots pricey 22. I want it to shoot everything. Hopefully they'll get the kinks out. My cheap 22A shoots anything.

Ok yesterday I took the Mosquito out and while it has been doing better after a 1000 round break in it sill had more problems than I wanted (averaged 1 fail to feed or fail to eject per mag) and it refused to do anything with Winchester Super X or actually anything but Mini Mags. I went home and finally bit the bullet and put a dremel to the feed ramp and gave it a nice polish. Took it out today and it was like shooting a completely different gun. 200 mini mags and 100 super x through it and the only problems were failure to extract when the chamber got dirty at around 150 or so rounds. Couple passes with the boresnake fixed that and she was up and running again. Of course there were some fail to fires due to the ammo but that happens with rimfires. Anyway, hope this helps anyone that has one of these little guns.
