It's just loaded ammunition until the primer goes off.

That thing NEVER jams, and it's accurate as hell. And, they are dirt cheap and SUPER easy to clean - you just pull the trigger guard and the barrel comes off.

They come in all different colors, sizes, and flavors:

I hear you on that S&W. I have a 622 I picked up from my cousin for $100. She said it jammed all the time; turned out it was just dirty. I cleaned it and it has never jammed with any ammo. I just need to go buy a couple more mags for it.

Did it come with a 2nd recoil spring? I had to swap to the lighter spring so my son's mosquito would run the cheaper ammo. The heavier spring with the standard velocity ammo brands tended to be a shoot, cock slide, shoot. The light spring and HV ammo doesn't work all that great either. When I can get the spring matched to the ammo we have that day it's 95% reliable.

Like someone else said, if nothing else my son has learned to clear the malfunctions. And when it works its a ton of fun.

You know come to think of it I think I saw a parts kit under the foam...I will look when I get home. Hopefully a lighter spring, better ammo and a clean ass chamber I think we might be able to get something going

To address your question, it depends on the gun. Some guns I have bought come with a lot of thick nasty lube in them or some come over-lubed. I always like to get familiar with a new gun so the first thing I do is take mine apart and clean and lube them properly before I go fire them.

When it comes to 22s though, I strongly recommend the Colt Woodsman. IMO, it is the best 22lr pistol ever made.
Mine ran for shit without the suppressor but 100% with a suppressor

I sold mine when I got a P229 conversion upper for my 229

I agree the High standard/Colt 22 is a great pistol

It's a shame it has so many problems. Some people get Mosquitos that have no problems at all, but it seems the majority have issues. If a .22 can't shoot the cheapest shit I have then I probably don't want it.
I haven't shot mine in a while because it is so finicky. IIRC, there is a spring slide u can replace to make it cycle easier.

I bought a threaded barrel model sunday. Took it apart, I can tell the gun has the potential to be a bitch. I'll break it in with 1 box of mini mags then after that its always going to get federal value pack. If it won't run on that I'm breaking out the dremel.

Good thing I have my beloved mk ii target.

The mosquito is generally fine as long as you stay with CCI mini mags, or a similar weight/velocity/quality plated round. Anything that you might question, don't shoot.

Yeah. It's fine as long as you run 6$ a box .22 ammunition.

makes it less fun that way.

i'll try it with federal value pack and report back.
