  • Wanting a 10mm...

So for a while now, Ive been wanting a full size larger caliber night stand/truck/winter carry/trail protection gun. For the longest I was thinking I wanted another 1911 but the capacity kills it for me and a double stack 1911 doesnt feel right. So while searching and reading, I disovered(yea Im a newb) you can buy a Glock 21 and then a KKM 10mm barrel and Glock 20 magazine and you end up with a convertible .45/10mm. Ive always been fascinated with the 10mm round and it had just skipped my mind till someone brought it up the other day.....

So my question is... Could all of you in the know lend me some opinions? Anyone have any experience with a Glock 20 or other 10mm? I know theres a handful of Glock haters on here which is fine, but Im a pretty big fan of the guns, just have never had the opportunity to play with a 20. Thanks in advance for all the replies and I hope this doesnt turn into a Glock sucks compared to Brand X thread.

I read that you can, the barrel just doesnt have the vents.

Thanks! Seems that depending on the generation and barrel you buy, you may or may not need an extractor.

I've been toying with the idea of buying a Lone Wolf 10mm Long Slide for my G21 for years now. Haven't committed to it yet, probably never will.

I know that CJ is going to flip. But what is the major advantage to 10mm, other than it's cool. I just looked up some generic ball ammo and the ft/lbs of energy @25 yds was only 24 ft/lbs more than .45 ACP. I'm just trying to see if 24 ft/lbs is worth adding another caliber of ammo I have to keep up with...

Most 10mm factory loads are tame. .45 ACP can't come close to what hot 10mm can do. But .45 Super can!

I didn't look at the page, but if that is accurate, holy shit. Is that safe?? Is it all the barrel that you have to worry about?

I would get a heavy recoil spring before shooting a bunch of the hot loads. IIRC, the 10mm slides are heavier than the .45 ACP slides too.

A 10mm has more energy at 100yds than a .45 has at the muzzle. My hunting rounds at 185gr @ 1483fps. It's the only semi auto cartridge legal for hunting deer.

Have you actually held a Glock 20? They're not exactly slim, and they aren't exactly ergonomic either. Which double stack guns have you played with?

You can do the same thing, cheaper, with a witness.

With the money left over you can choose a half dozen more calibers as well.

Of course, you would be trading the wonderful ergonomics of the glock for the crappy feel of a CZ design, but some might actually consider that a bonus

                              EDIT:

forgot to add, to really benefit from everything the 10mm can offer, go with as long a barrel as possible. A short barrel ends up being a glorified 40 for the most part.
