Issues with 1911...

Different guns require different quality of mags. Wilson mags are the best for sure.

My M1911A1 will feed 100% reliably from the shittiest magazines in the world. It has never jammed once, I seriously think it would reliability cycle .357 mag, jelly beans, acorns, anything. But my other 1911's have issues with the same mags.

i have two 8 round mags i wouldnt mind upgrading the springs on.

Are the magazines you plan on upgrading 7 rounders or 8 rounders? Personally, what i've always done is sell off the mags i've owned that weren't wilson and upgraded to the 8 rounders (47d?).
I have two 8 round mags i wouldnt mind upgrading the springs on.

little late to chime in but I will anyhow

couple to check on the FTF
Limp wristing (gone over so I won't)

is the recoil spring in correctly? I know it sounds odd but if it is on wrong can cause the spring to ind and not give full power to slide home the open end should be against the plug and the closed end against the spring guide. Colt plugs used to have a indention that let you "screw" the plug onto the spring

under lubrication can do this I don't oil my 1911's I grease them white lithium or tetra works great you don't need a lot and I find it makes the action seem smoother than oil does

also I have found using any of the "shok buffers" tends to help it shortens the stroke and stiffens the recoil spring just a bit.

As far as the slide stop engaging
It has been my experience that this usually happens due to a combination of recoil and improper grip the off hand or the thumb hit the slide stop when the pistol twists under recoil. try switching your grip and make sure that if you are using a weaver or FBI stance your grip is not to high. Have also seen people engage a safety doing this also.

Other thing to look at is if you are shooting heavy loads sometimes the bullet will protrude far enough to trip the slide stop something else to look at just having a bit of brass on the stop is not a indicator as the bullets can and do contact under recoil and during feeding

Well no real advantage there either. I'd still get the Wilson mags and your baller enough to afford the upgrade I've got like 10 Wilson 47D mags at home and I'm far from being a baller

Thanks for the advice, I'll keep a much sharper eye on my grip when I get it to the range this weeked. I shoot left-handed though, so my thumb is no where near the slide stop.
