I've got the otis kit. I'm going to pick up a gunslick ar boreguide instead. Then foaming bore cleaner and a tipton rod with a brush.

The otis kit works but its messy compared to using a boreguide with a chamber for solvents.

Awesome. I'm going to place the order for my barrel tonight. Trying to bundle as many items as I can to cut down on shipping.

Another newb question. What type of ammo would you recommend? I wasn't sure if I needed to stick to a particular type of ammo the first so many rounds through a new rifle or not.

Its not. I'm doing the budget rifle thing! Any ammo I should stay away from? Also, I think the only thing I don't have covered is the rear sight. The barrel is coming with an A2 front sight, anything I should stay away from for the rear iron sight? Any recommendations for a budget build?

If your primary sights will be iron sights, stay with an iron sight. You don't have to spend a bunch of money on a folding sight if you're not going to use an optic. I have one like this:http://combatoptical.com/catalog/Rem...tment-641.html, and it does just fine. If you shop around, you can probably find a similar one for a little cheaper.

With that particular barrel, you're going to want to stay in the 40gr to 62gr range. Even though it is one of the cheapest brass cased factory loads, I've had good luck with this: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/65968-5.html. Again, if you shop around, and buy in quantity, you can get it pretty cheap. It is FMJ though, so most outdoor ranges won't allow it. For non-FMJ, I've had good results with Fiocchi V-Max (again, these aren't very expensive), 50gr and 40gr. The 50gr to 62gr bullets seem to have the best accuracy.
Google "barrel break in". There will be a lot of opinions on the how-to. Just pick one that sounds best to you and go with it.
Two more things. First, I would stay away from any euro/russian-made polymer-cased ammo. The non-chrome Del-Ton can have some problems. Secondly, for cleaning, get some Break Free "Powder Blast". You'll be glad you did.

Thanks for all of the help everyone! This is my first AR, the last decision to make is to get with someone to put it together, or go through the experience on my own.

It's not that bad. I watched a 2-part video on YouTube that taught me how to put it together, only needed to watch it once. It'll help you better understand the way everything functions, too.

Of really spend the money for Chrome lined on a ar. So much easier and lower Matinence. Only thing I clean on mine every few months is the bolt. I just boresnake the barrel with some clp.

Mine gets treated like crap. I don't shoot a lot but atleast a 1000 a year could be more. It gets exposed to some weather and dust.

99% of its duty will be range time. I ordered the Barrel last night, so its too late to switch. I'm sure that I will upgrade later on so this is a budget learning rifle. It will be my first rifle, I haven't shot one in years.

Yeah, they've got a link for Barrel break in. I plan to go through it after I get it all assembled. As I mentioned, I got the Barrel ordered last night. The gas tube, roll pin, and delta pack showed up yesterday with my rifle bag. All that I have left to pick up is the assembled upper receiver, BCG, charging handle and a rear iron sight. Then its stock up on ammo, get a couple more magazines, and fire away

That's where I got my first one to test with the lower. With the free shipping, that will be where I get all of my future mags too

Barrel should be on its way from DSA soon, BCG, receiver, and charging handle were just ordered from SAA. Merry Christmas to me....

Looks like everything shipped today. All that is left is a rear sight, a couple more pmags, and some ammo and away we go!
