  • Time to finish the AR

I've decided I'm going to finish my AR as a christmas present to myself. I'm trying to decide whether it is cost effective to assemble the upper or not. I currently have a completed lower and adjustable stock. Any input?

SAA has a completed upper for 379.99 plus shipping.

I'd shop around for a decent used lower, most lowers don't come with the BCG and stuff. I find pretty good deals frequently on a local gun forum. What are you building? What lower etc etc etc?

If you don't already have all of the tools (or access to all of the tools) to assemble an upper, it probably would be better to get an assembled one. Look for black friday deals. Most of the major vendors have them.

I have that upper on one of my rifles, I've only put maybe 50 rounds through it but I like it. Really like the MOE hand guard.

I already have my lower, fully assembled. AR 15. I want to try and stick with the aero precision upper receiver, as it seems to mate up well to the Aero precision lower receiver.

I'm still looking around. Seems I can build it for 20+ cheaper until you add in the sights. I do have access to the tools to get it assembled.

Good to hear! My original plan was to wait and get in on all of the group buys, so I picked up a couple of pieces already. I've got a flash hider and an MOE hand guard.

              I did find this barrel:

Though I'm not versed in barrel materials or finishes. Seems its got the barrel, barrel nut, and FSB/Gas block already there. All I would need would be the upper receiver kit from SAA (assembled upper receiver, BCG, and charging handle), gas tube, and delta pack...correct?

I wish I had the $$$ for a piston upper. I want this to be a budget build. Something I can learn and get acquainted with, and upgrade as I go, or just build a new rifle. 99% of its duty will be range/target work

I meant to say upper talking about bcg. I was asking what all you built the lower with. They're stupid simple to assemble(lower)

Parts were what came with the forum Group buy. Aero Precision lower receiver, DPMS? LPK, and then the cheap 6 position stock from AIMSurplus

That's not bad at all. You'd also need a flash hider/muzzle brake. Also, it's not chrome lined, which isn't that big of a deal as long as you stay away from corrosive (i.e. russian made) ammo, and clean it soon after shooting.

Good to know. I picked up a flash hider from a board member when I was picking things up as I saw them. I'm very religious about cleaning my firearms, So far it looks like that barrel is the best way to go.

Scooped up one of those midway rifle bags this morning. Unfortunately I missed the 42", so I got a 46" hopefully it isn't too big for my AR. Along with that, I picked up a delta pack, gas tube, and roll pin. I should be able to order either the upper assembly w BCG or the barrel by next week. Really hoping to have this thing to the range before christmas
