  • AR 15 .22 conversion

I'm currently building an Ar 15 and going to get a dedicated .22 upper to go along with the other upper. I was wondering if any of you guys had any suggestions as to some of the brands. I'd like to find a decent kit so I can shoot the cheap rounds! Also will be my first build so all suggestions are appreciated!

For the price get a m&p 15. Unless prices have really come down on conversions.

I had the drop in kind and got bored. It took longer to load the mags than shoot it to empty. I would look into a 9mm upper instead.

This. You can get a complete rifle for the same price or less than the uppers or conversions.

I am fixing to buy the colt m4 .22 I have been doing allot of research and they seem like a good gun and I really like the full metal body over the poly ones.
these are from out of state so you save on Taxes and they ship free 2day air.

I have the S&W M&P15-22. I haven't shot it but it feels nice.

What's wrong with just buying the kit for 150? Comes with a different bcg and a clip that will fire .22 all through your same upper and lower.

I've read they're not as accurate due to improper twist rates and I'd rather no damage anything shooting cheap shells. I may assemble two lowers and two uppers. I can pick up used complete uppers for cheap locally. How did you like the CMMG uppper?

If you want an AR 22 we have the CMMG complete rifles using AR15 lowers for $549 or complete uppers for $350. This gives you the ability to upgrade the rifle later to any other regular AR upper in any cal available.

I too would have to recommend a dedicated 22. M&P 15-22, 10/22....whatever. Only downside is you haul 2 rifles - but each is dedicated.

Personally I have my AR-15 and I have the M&P 15-22. I like to try out the cheap tacticool stuff on my 22, before I waste gobs of money for the good stuff on the AR. In the end, I've just stuck with a scope so far. However, it's nice having the 22 - bounce between scope, irons or however I want to plink.

I can see the appeal to them being on the same lower though - just prefer separate. Plus, no swapping - just grab it and go. (That's a first world benefit there. )

LOL well I bought complete lower and a complete riffle. Going to snag a .22 upper and swap out the parts in the complete lower for a 9mm.
