My girlfriend son bought himself a used bow ( I don't know brand, model). For xmas he want some sights and balancers. I don't know bow and need some help/advice on getting some sight and balancers. Do I need the brand/model. Can I just go buy any sight/balancer. Where are some good places other then pro bass and cabelas.

I might suggest Syracuse. That have a bad ass archery shop.
I might add, that the accessories you add to your bow will also depend on what you are gonna do with it. Target, 3-D, Hunting etc.

Agreed.
Make sure you get some decent arrows. Goldtip has some realtively inexpensive carbons out there ($80 for a dozen) that will last for quite a while. Shoot 6, keep 6 back and replace as needed. They will shatter if mistreated, but part of the lesson is to take care of your gear.

Check out the archary talk forums.
Also the fletching on the arrows matter for intended use. I like the 4 inch for hunting cause they make less noise than the shorties. But the shorties are slightly more accurate for competition shooting.

Bow Knows Hunting?"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson, 1776

If I might throw in. There are a lot of good deals on sights and rests in the bargain cave at Cabellas. Personally I'd recommend a drop away rest just have someone install it. As far as sights that's a personal thing. I shoot a single pin hwa with yardage adjustment. My buddy swears by his 5 pin so it's all what you like. I did have a g5 5 pin and it was nice but I found the sight kind of cluttered for my liking.
Whatever you do if he shoots carbons teach him to flex em consistently. I blew up a carbon not to long ago and lucked out with just a scratch.
