  • Wildcat Wildness - the .50 Hush Puppy

I came across this new wildcat round looking up various new concoctions. The .50 Hushpuppy is made by cutting the shoulder off a 7mm wsm and sticking in a .50 bmg projectile. Initial tests with the 300gr barnes projectiles show 2,600fps delivering around 4,500ft lbs of energy. That's nearly twice as much as a .308 winchester, and double a .458 socom and .50 beowulf. And, it fits in AR platforms. You can use standard round nose projectiles or spire point. Quite interesting.

      If a .50 BMG doesn't I don't think you're gonna have any problems.

So is this going to be like the '50's and '60's? Are really effective wildcats going to keep popping up once a month? This is badass!

Bullet drop much? Pretty interesting though. Any more ballistics info for it?

The only problem I could see is sometimes wsm brass is lacking quality control at times.

It wouldn't be bad. The cool part about heavy bullets loaded subsonic is they become crazy efficient.

They retain crazy energy, but they don't fly flat.

Aerodynamics being the same, heavy bullets outrange lighter ones, to a great degree.

And that is retained energy. Aerodynamics won't be the same across bullet weights in the same caliber. A fast bullet will lose velocity, but a heavy bullet will not lose it's inertia nearly as fast.

                              Here's a thought experiment:

You are on the mound at rangers stadium with a bucket of balls. For each one you make in the strike zone you get $100. For each one that fails, you pay $1.

Before you accept the challenge, you have to choose what balls to throw. You have a choice of golf balls or ping-pong balls. Which to choose?
