        That may be the case but I have never had a problem with it. Carrying a hand gun in NY is also illegal but I have never let that stop me from doing so. Carrying in TX was also illegal until 94' or 95' and I carried before then also.

        Why is it legal for me to carry as may hand guns as I see fit in TX but this knife is illegal?
        Magnus, I am your father. You need to ask your mother about a man named Calvin Klein.

          certain laws may be stupid but if they exist you sure as hell can be punished for breaking them. just make sure you never get caught if you carry it.

            Look at it this way:
            You can carry one knife that is perfectly legal and fits your purpose, or you can carry another very similar knife that is illegal and will land you in jail if you ever end up under scrutiny. I don't care which one you carry, but plenty of good men have done time because some over zealous prick cop and some fuck head D.A. have decided to nail their balls to the wall.

              Because a double edged knife is illegal. Chapter 46 of the Texas Penal Code.

              (6) "Illegal knife" means a:
              (A) knife with a blade over five and one-half inches;
              (B) hand instrument designed to cut or stab another by being thrown;
              (C) dagger, including but not limited to a dirk, stiletto, and poniard;
              (D) bowie knife;
              (E) sword; or
              (F) spear.
              (7) "Knife" means any bladed hand instrument that is capable of inflicting serious bodily injury or death by cutting or stabbing a person with the instrument.

              I'll agree, but the only reason to let someone you know that you have one will save your life. Be stupid about it and pay the consequences.

                There is nothing that I can do with a dagger that I can't do with a knife that fits within Texas laws. If I do happen to get into an altercation that does not end in the use of that blade, and the cops get involved, I would rather them see that I had a legal blade and did not employ it as opposed to seeing that I was in possession of a legal weapon, and therefor automatically a criminal.

                  Contrary to what you think, it isn't an automatic trip to jail. I've used great discretion on dealing with weapons.

                  I had a CHL'er printing and was called on by another citizen. I just had a nice talk with him and he went on his way.

                  I've let several knives slide over the years as long as the person was not a habitual felon and there was reasonable explanation.

                    You aren't every officer, and lots of folks have ended up getting a case because of a relatively minor infraction, simply because that cop couldn't "let go". If a cop just wants to make your life miserable, then he will. I don't plan on giving anyone a free shot.

                      Your logic will keep most people out of jail. Not all cops use reasonable discretion.

                        Bingo. I've had plenty of encounters with LEO, and many could have gone the other way if I hadn't minded my P's and Q's.

                          Can't go wrong with a surefire. They are bright as hell and practically indestructable. If you want one with self-defense in mind, go for the 6PX Defender or the E2D LED defender. The crenellations on the heads are nice an sharp and can do some serious damage when need be.
