  • Lewisville Gun Show - First Time - Not bad

Went to my first gun show on Saturday up in Lewisville. They had it in the old best buy on the North side of I-35W (they moved across the street for some reason)

Anyways, it was supposed to be $8 to get in, but I walked up with my tax stamp copy all folded up (like it was an invoice) and stated I was there to pick up my 11.5" upper from Model 1 Sales, and they let me in. Well once I got my upper, I just turned my jacket inside out (reversible) and started to browse.

    Ended up with:

    - (3) Glock 17 Mags for my Glock 22 Conversion $10/ea
    - (1) OD MOE Handguard $25
    - (1) Nifty "open assist" knife $15
    - (1) 1-point sling and plate adapter for ar-15 $20

I have to say, I didn't see so much overpriced stuff as I thought I would. The ammo was stupid (WWB for $38) but I was really impressed with the safe selection there. I could have bought a 60" Canon 585lb safe with door kit for like $869. I'm probably going to go to another gun show when it comes time for me to get a man's safe.

Oh and without further comment, my 5.45x39 SBR. I plan on getting my CTR stock in OD and I bought my magpul grip after this photo from CTD for $20.

I was considering going to that gunshow this weekend, but being the first in Lewisville scared me away. Any reloading stuff?

Looked like a good sized reloaders area right in the middle. Selling brass and bullets in bulk ziploc bags. I saw a price or two but have since forgotten what it was.

For a first time in Lewisville, was not bad to me...now I've never been to the big one in Ft. Worth, but this seemed really nice and all the vendors (including Model 1 ) were very happy and willing to negotiate on prices.

I was very pleased with the show at Irving convention center.

Free, covered parking, excellent facilities (modern bathrooms had an attendant full time), nicely laid out. Didn't seem to be any restrictions on components. I will probably never attend the FW show again as long as this one is here.

The absolute best show i ever attended was waxahachie though. I think they had one show and it has been many years. I found all kinds of things, and finally had to cut it all off at about $4k, otherwise i could have spent way more. It seemed that everyone had gathered there with closets and safes full of stuff they had been ready to unload for ages but never had a venue that catered to the small time table operator.

PM me next time you go to either (if you don't mind a tag-along) both sound like very nice gun shows (esp the Waxahachie one)

Sure, I am planning to make irving again in january, depending on some medical and work things. There will be room for two tag-alongs in the batmobile. And trunk room for days.

I don't think waxahachie has had a show since that one I attended, and I think that was 6-7 years ago.

                January 21-22, 2012 - Irving Convention Center
                Saturday 9am-5pm
                Sunday 10am-4pm

Unless something major happens sounds like a good time for all. I'd enjoy learning more about ARs. Never have been interested but the lego factor strikes a chord.

If you haven't been then make sure to check out the gunshow at Market Hall that's put on by Dallas Arms Collection. It's one of the bigger/better shows to hit.

I always liked it too. The last time I went though they had part of the parking garage sealed off for something, took forever to find a place to park. I think MH doesn't allow powder or primers either.

Big Town was always pretty decent too, but too far for me.

I know they allow powder because I picked some up for a buddy the last time I went.

Not sure which one that was then.

I know i went to one at the astrodome once, talk about lame! No powder, no primers, no ammunition!

The place was huge, and one of those that was split between a gun show and an arts and crafts exhibit. Probably the most impressive display of airsoft guns and accessories ever assembled. as for selection of pistols, it took several hours, but i found a single 10mm and that was it.

You can definitely buy powder/primers/reloads at the MH show, several big reloading companies will be there.
