  • .22 LR and zombie hunting?

After watching The Walking Dead and a few other zombie movies the past few Sunday's, I've been curious how a .22 LR would perform in a zombie defense situation. Discuss.

If you are asking whether or not a 22lr from a rifle would pierce a human skull, then the answer is yes.

They'd probably spit the little slug back at you. That is if their tongue and lips are still there and functioning.

In the days of zombies, I would rock out with a nice 10/22 and thousands of rounds of ammo. However, .45 and a re-loading press might do ok as well.

don't 22's normally bounce around in the skull. Goes in, but doesn't come out?

Sounds like the perfect zombie weapon to me. Add a quality suppressor and you might have the ultimate zombie killing weapon.

              Taking it a step further....

A reliable magazine fed .22LR rifle........like, high capacity magazine, like the S&W MP15-22 would be a better choice. Especially with a few dozen spare mags.

Or a couple of those drum mags I've seen around...if they're reliable.

I may have a new project for next spring.....

Is a suppressor for a .22 cheaper than say one for a .40 or .223?

My grandpa says he used to hunt deer with a .22 LR, FWIW.

Ex-Sheriff buddy of mine got a call once where a guy was goofing with a .22 pistol (twirling on his finger) and the thing went off and hit him in the waist. He yelled at his wife, "Oh sh*t! I shot myself!" and promptly died. Autopsy discovered the bullet hit his pelvic bone and ricocheted straight up and into his heart.

So...ya.... .22's can kill. It just how accurate you can be with it.

most of the time it's a bit cheaper but you still have to pay the $200 tax stamp and setup a trust or get a signature from some police head honcho

Well now that ruger has their own 25 round mags I think the 10/22 would be perfect. This is assuming that they are as reliable as the stock 10 rounders. You could carry several thousand rounds of 22 in loaded mags and barely notice it; compared to the same quantity of .223 or 12 gauge.

So what do you guys think would be the maximum effective range of a .22 LR into a zombie skull? Besides the Ruger mags, what are some other reliable magazines? Wish I could afford a suppressor

                              I'd say 100 yards max.

With several 25rd mags, and a suppressor it would be the ultimate zombie weapon. But I'd still have an AR-15.
