  • School me on O/U 12 gauges

I want something better than my 870 for bird hunting. I shot a few with a friends Browning O/U this past weekend when we went pheasant hunting and I love it. From what I have researched, Browning or Beretta makes the best?

Winchester 101's are great too.... Older ones are made in the same factory as the Brownings in Japan the new ones are made at the FN factory in Belgium.

Lightning Citori, FTW. The Citoris are an evolution of the old Superposed, and they're stupid tough. If you think a 12 handles well, try the 20ga. I love that thing for upland birds, and that will be my next shotgun purchase. Remember when you check them out in the store, hold it by the middle of the gun, like you would when you're carrying it, and make sure it doesn't hit your foot, or the floor. If it does, it's too long.

Honestly it depends on how much money you want to spend. I have both a Ruger Sporting Clays Edition and a Browning White Lightning. I love them both but would trade them both for a Beretta 686eL. The Beretta will cost you quite a bit more than the Citori. The best O/U's in the world IMO is a Kreighoff K32 which is a copy of the Remington model 32. Kreighoffs start in the 7-8K range and go up from there.

That's the key, how much ya wanna spend. If you're spending 1K+ this is the thread for you. If you want under that - I'll find the link to a thread a start a few weeks ago on the same thing with good information.

          O/Us are cool though.

I have the Stoeger STF 3000 O/U, It only cost me $373, so I know it's probably the "hi-point" of shotguns, but it works perfectly for me. I hosted a bachelor party at Alpine Range and we played some Skeet, it performed great...unlike it's shooter.

I let the Groom to be use it for himself and I just used a Mossberg pump I had in the safe, did a paltry 15/25 but the groom did 2/25...but when we were praticing, I was dusting the clay's, so I know it is not the firearm.

I heard that Stoegers don't like Winchester ammo, so I bought the Federal target loads and had no issues...

I wanted an O/U, but was not sure if I would like it for Dove so I bought a cheap Yildiz to try. I liked it enough that I never replaced it....

Kind of same story with me, I will be using this thing 2 to 3 times a year max, I'm not going to drop some coin on a super O/U when it will be used infrequently.

I've got one too, and I like the hell out of it. Great gun for the money, IMHO.

Yeah I kind of figured I would spend about 12-1500 I am expecting that. I was looking around and those Citori's stuck out to me. Looks like what I am looking for. Thanks for the info guys!

It's been over a year since I researched them, but I seem to remember hearing some complaints on the Mossberg O/U. No first hand accounts just online forums with several people mentioning part failures. I was researching for skeet shooting not hunting. So that would be comments from people who shoot them much more frequently.

paid $350 new for a 20g O/U Yildiz and have had no issues so far. About 500 rounds through it.
