.300 blackout, or really a .30 cal projectile has a very good drag coefficient, it loses almost no velocity in 100 yards when it is subsonic. The issue is when a bullet drops from super sonic, to subsonic it has a drastic change in drag, and that causes a big drop in velocity. To my knowledge a .300 whisper has enough bang to keep it supersonic and accurate out to around 650 yards, but after that I believe it drops like a rock. Subsonic they are good out to around 400-450 yards.

The 6.8spc is not a long range round, I personally would not shoot anything over 250-300 yards with it. Most people use Barnes bullets and they need speed to open up. You could also look at a 6.5 which is supposed to be pretty flat out to 400-500 yards.

Sorry I didnt clarify in my post enough. I was referring to the rifles it was designed for (i.e. 12.5" carbines) which hitting out to 300 is damn respectable.
