Help me pick a handguard or quad rail!

I've been looking for a hand guard or quad rail that is nice and secure. The handguard on my AR10 is loose and they all come like that.

I dont want to spend a shit ton of money because I'm already balls deep in this gun..I'd also like to get something I can put on myself and not have to mess around with a gun smith.

I've been looking around for a few weeks and I just can't get a straight answer..The more I look the more confused I get.

What do I need to look at to make sure it will fit and I can put it on myself?

from my limited experience, i like the magpul moe for carbines. it's cheap and feels the most comfortable in my off hand.

YHM quad rail if you want to attach stuff.

the plain jane rolled aluminum tube is my favorite for a long barrel rig.

However, I think I'm going to be forced to drill and tap a picatinny rail soon so I can mount an IR illuminator easier.

did you drill and tap the guard for that bipod? i have one that needs a QD stud.

Harris bipods use a sling mount stud.

It's an AR15 with a Vltor EMOD stock, 24" Sabre Defence super bench barrel 1:8 twist with a Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP scope mounted on a Larue MRS20moa base.

I've spent about a year working loads on it. Right now it shoots sub 1/4 MOA at 100 yards, sub 1/2 MOA at 200 yards. At 1000 yards I can get all hits on paper, but the grouping is not too fantastic. I've varied as much as 10" groups to 5" groups at 1000 yards. One gust of wind and your bullet flys a few feet left or right of the target. However, I am shooting a semi auto .223 rifle at 1000 yards, may very well need some more work on the action and lugs.

I went with the Midwest Industries quad rail on mine. I have compared them to a lot of the other forends costing two to three times as much and would do it over again 1000 times over.

Harris bipods use a sling mount stud.

Maybe you can help me out, I Have a rifle very much like yours above, low-pro gas block with picatinny rail on top. Mine is 2-piece and I can unscrew my hand guard and it will hit the top of my gasblock, so I can't pull it off. My aluminum round hand guard does not have a swivel stud, just 2 small screw holes about a 1/2 inch apart.

Any ideas on how to get my picatinny rail attached so I can use my bipod? It came with a rail and a swivel stud adapter, I have neither...just two small non-threaded holes (I think)

You should thread your swivel stud into one of those holes, problem solved! You can buy them on midwayusa.

That's a bummer you don't like the classic hand guards.

With that said, may as well look into a free float rail or something along the lines on CJ's (which also appears to be free float) if you hate what you have. These days they have anti-rotational screws and such, so basically zero chance of movement...etc. For that purpose I'm a YHM fan, simply based off their quality vs price.

Free float or drop in can be done at home. I packed up my upper vice adapter, but I have the DPMS wrench still in a drawer if you need to borrow it. I'm sure someone has the vice part or both.

What I don't know for sure is if the free float type tubes/rails will require a different gas block or not on that rifle.

I like it but its loose..Is there a way to tighten it? They all seem to have alittle play from the factory.

For the life of me I don't know why I didn't ask to shoot yours when we went to the range last month. I would have liked to have tested that vortex glass.

I still have not put a solution to the lugs on mine. Maybe next R&R.
