Sounds like the story my boss told me about when they finally made his Marine unit switch from the 1911 to the Beretta M9. Nobody wanted it, and when they finally got one in their hands, they hated it more still.

IIRC, the major difference between that rifle and the M4/M16 is that it can fire from either closed or open bolt. So to prevent overheating and keep performance similar to the SAW it can run open bolt. Or it can be switched to closed bolt.

11.62 pounds weapon with ancillary equipment
Sounds to me like that includes the ammo loadout as well.

              That's about 150 rounds.

so basically theyre just going to stick a beta mag in it ?
there is no way it is issued with 30 rd mags , get real.
IMO, this seems like a good replacement for the SAW.
How much does the saw weigh? that shits heavy . 12 pounds , I could at least realistically carry that rifle and run. You get like a 20+ lb gun , and I just don't see how your doing anything that damn fast.
If you really want a useful suppressive weapon, fuck 5.56, you need 7.62 any way!

Animal mother had no problem with the M60 when running. I use this as my benchmark for all machine gunners.

I believe the rifle can only fire from a closed bolt.

Holy chit, that's alot of clipazines. I feel like our government has just made a horrible decision.

How does one effectively carry 22 magazines in battle?

Don't worry, I'm sure the government has a brilliant solution.

okay, well heres how I do that math

1 .223 case is 100grains, 62gr M855 projectile, 25gr WCC-844 powder, so that's 187gr per round, or 5610gr per magazine, and magazine weight of 5.8oz (2,538gr) for a grand total of 8148gr per magazine which is 1.20lbs, so 22 magazines will weigh 26.4lbs. I do not think 30 links weigh 5.8 ounces, so it seems this weighs more, takes the soldier out of the fight, and lowers suppression.

22 mags!!!! WTF? Think about having to do 22 reloads in the heat of battle. I bet that the soldiers start breaking the guns to get their old ones back.
