If you feel like meeting up right at sunrise on a Monday I would be happy to have you as a guest at my range in Carrollton. There is a 100 yard range that you can use and early in the day there is not a soul there.
Magnus, I am your father. You need to ask your mother about a man named Calvin Klein.

LOL, you know first hand. I was so tired of chasing brass and farting with reloads. I only ask one thing, if you ever decide to turn them for something, just let me know, I'd take both back and pay for it dearly, just for sentimental reasons.
Yeah, I hear you. They aren't going anywhere.

Man, it's been so long, I can't remember what all I did. There was the home trigger job, which made a big difference (I followed instructions on the Internet somewhere), then I got a recoil reducer - which was like a super heavy duty recoil rod and spring. I also have Wolff heavy duty recoil springs, but I don't think those were as effective.

I would love to take you up on it some time. I need a 25yd or similar start to get the scope lined up. I plan to use an indoor 20yd to do that first. If I can keep them close there I'll move out further until I can't. If I can hit a competition style target at 200yds I think I would be confident enough to take a hunting shot at 50, maybe 75. Assuming I would even have a shot like that in brush country.

who am I kidding? I'll never hit a 200yd target and I'm too lazy to actually get off my but and go hunting.

I cannot find the online stuff that you started with. I am pretty sure you filed down the extractor a little, and there were some things for the trigger. I don't know if that feed ramp ever needed any work, it always seemed to feed just fine.

If you find any of that let me know. I think it originally came from glocktalk or maybe high road.

I hit the extractor with a file just a little bit IIRC, but I think that wasn't done to any particular specs. I also polished the feed ramp with some fine, fine sandpaper because I was having feed issues with some of the heavy bullets in the high capacity mags. It made a difference, but I also changed out springs in the mags and the problem went away.

The trick to hitting a target @ 200 yards with a pistol is simply trying to do it. It will sound funny but I lay on my side with the gun resting on my hip and my head propped up by my left arm for long range pistol shooting. I have taken a deer with a .357Mag loaded with a Hornady 180g XTP this way but the shot was under 130 yards. You can't do this at the range with anyone else around because it will give the safety Nazis a heart attack.

My range has a 25 yard bay for sighting in but is should only take you a few minutes to get that done. After that we can hit the longer ranges. PM me if you would like to go.

I used to shoot IHMSA (off and on since the 80s) so I have plenty of practice hitting the dirt all around the target

I shoot revolver, standing, there is no way I would use one of the more common prone stances with the cylinder blast on this thing. Even with a blast sheild, it still does not recoil cleanly from a rest so standing it is. Which is pretty much how I would handle a shot in brush anyhow.

My goal was to gain 100% confidence at 50 or so, stretching it out to 200 was perfect for practice. Unfortunately the clusterfuck that is IHMSA decided ported barrels under 14" were a serious safety hazard (yeah, right, I know the inside story).

Jim Fields, great match director, is pushing for a new class called hunter pistol. Several clubs lost quite a few younger (under 90) shooters when they introduced the stupidness, and this sanctioning body has always teetered on bankruptcy because of idiocy like this.

It has a little footbridge over a creek, and then a pretty nice little setup.

It was always a nice place until Mr. range nazi showed up. And i am the last person to do stupid shit and lose priveledges.

Yes, that's Quail Creek. A bunch of good people out there, and I've had good times with the RO (bearded guy) you spoke of. As far as I know, he's still out there but maybe on a part time basis!?

I believe you were referring to the younger RO (the asshat) that gave you shit. I've heard several stories about him and his "holier than thou/I'm a range god" attitude.

First time I took the .500 out there, I asked for an end slot so that I wouldn't "flash blind" other shooters. He just pointed at a stall and said "no, shoot here!".

After the first two rounds fired, and scaring an older gent next to me, out of his chair (he literally fell back wards), the range god come over and said he needed to re-inspect my weapon and ammo.

That same day I saw him jump down a guys throat because he was shooting an A/R variant with iron sights. Yes, the guy was in the wrong but a simple correction and ban using that rifle would have been sufficient but he just used it as an opportunity to belittle the guy in front of his girl friend/wife.

What is wrong with an AR with iron sights?

                      lol

Not a damned thing, if you can shoot.

Some ranges won't let you shoot iron sights on the 100 yard range.

I never understood that. If you can't get on paper at 100 yards with open sights, you have no business there...in my opinion.

haha what? I'm not good with irons by any means but even I can hit paper at 100. I am sure glad I haven't been to one of those places because that is pretty dumb.

                            I agree 1000%

In fact, I said "some ranges..." but I can only remember Quail Creek for sure, as banning iron sights on the long range.

Yeah, if you can't hit paper with an A/R at 100 yards using iron sights, you need some serious practice.
